Jean-Micheal's comment was exactly what I was going to say! (I believe he is living in Canada, near Montreal?) While I am in the US, in Randolph, Massachusetts. so we probably see the same types of birds.

The Hairy Woodpecker (Picoides villosus) has a length of 9"/23 cm, wingspread of 14 1/2 " /37cm.

*All of my bird books are for those in North America. Could you tell us what type of bird this is? (If you post it here alone, we probably wont get the info, but if you email us, that would be great.
