Wonderful portrait : your telling us about this lady adds so much interest. Sad - perhaps, but is her strength and determination to live as she wishes, not as others might like, also admirable ? I certainly think so !

Ormond, you are such a kind person to offer help. She rarely accepts anything we offer her. However she sometimes asks for something herself: for example, once, she told me (but me in particular) in a subtle way that she has no socks, and she showed me her bare feet. It was very cold, and I was wearing two pairs at the time! So I took off one of them I gave them to her. :) She has her ways, she a peculiar kind... But she says she would never leave the church yard..

Oh this story of Velika makes me so sad. Many years ago I had an old family cousin like this and her house to was like shed. Please if ican send some small gift , anything please let me know it would be an honour.

This woman's name is Velika, meaning 'Great' in Serbian. She has had a very difficult life and lives in our church's premises, or better to say in a shed. She has been offered to move to old people's home, but she refuses. She's a strange woman, her words touch your soul and often hit where you are most fragile...
