"Freedom"
Lijiang, April 1993. The poet Yang Ming Yi makes a calligraphy he gave me with great delicacy. A touching encounter with this erudite man, professor from a noble family who spent 30 years of his life as a bricklayer following the Cultural Revolution. He only recovered his freedom in 1984. He is also the author of a dictionary Chinese / English / Nashi (hieroglyphic writing of the Nashi minority in Lijiang).
Thanks Greentea for pushing me through your pics of this place to come back to this picture, originally Kodachrome 64.
It's clearly a rather special photo, given more power not only by your text, but also greentea's comment. It is very good to have these insights here on the site.
great to see this..did you meet the famours armless Nashi calligrapher Ms. He, who uses his mouth to hold the brush to write. almost 20 years, you had built a lot of wonderful memory in your travelling. and recorded so much life and change. you should be proud of yourself!
