"The cross, the sun and the storm coming" _ The ensemble called the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Pedra Mua, implanted in the extremity of the Cape Espichel, is undoubtedly the most important and characteristic of the municipality of Sesimbra. There are, in this precious cluster of buildings (from the old Memory Chapel to the Church from the 17th century), a unit of graphic values that makes you forget the disparity of styles. The cult of Our Lady of the Cape is lost in the mists of time and it is conceivable that before Her worship - from the XV century - Cape Espichel was a pilgrimage center. The church interior is decorated with Baroque paintings, ex-voto and frescoes.
On each side of the church is a row of lodging for pilgrims, called the House of candles, forming the public square at Cape Espichel; in the background one can see a cross, where truly begins the Sanctuary.

I appreciated the wonderful commentary. Perhaps you are a docent there, providing tours? You are most knowledgeable. This lighting - exquisite! Was that natural light, or added later by computer? You bring much to the field with shots like these! 5

Realmente, un BW de gran delicadeza. Un finísimo cuidado en la simetría y la perspectiva, donde lo único que se destaca fuera de ese entorno es la sombra, que marca la diferencia. Excepcional!

Part 2: (continued): as I started, a very strange experience for me.
PS:- No, it wasn't sepia, the car!

Matey, this is a strange experience for me. I have just spent 5 whole minutes staring at AL of the enlarged version, fascinated & also mystified.
I know this place so well, been many times (once even with Michel Proud'homme, one of your faves!), love it and the whole area. I know all the historical details (amiguinha was a tour guide!). But finally, I conclude this is not the Espchel that I hve known. It is, rather, a representation, an impression that leans heavily on the sky conditions and the (late-morning?) sunlight. Even the 2-floor cells along the sides look different. It is very moving, a tour de force of a photo; it is also sinister, foreboding with its biblical darkness and the shadow of the cross. All in all, as I

First thing coming up to me is what happened to that cross??? secondly of course I am curious how it came to be as the light cirumstances are far from usual and impossible to attain without serious editing, having said that the result is an intriguing scene with great dramatic effect! 5
