Some pictures from the protests in the center of Madrid. La Puerta del Sol square is taken by the people from 15th May. This concentration was declared illegal, but people stays there tired of the politicians.
You can also see the complete gallery in full size
here)
"El Oso y el Madroño", symbol of the city of Madrid, is now full of messages
Coordinating protests
A lot of TVs from other countries came here to show this to the world
"Come to Sol"
A man with lots of things to explain
There's also a nursery there
There are messages all around the square and also a lot of people who wants to support the people camping there with their presence
People of Europe RISE UP
People don't want alcohol there, this is not for fun
"Outraged and organized"
A spanish pun, asking for taking the square
"People loves the revolt"
All the square is taken by the people and their messages
Another message against the banks
"Yes we Sol"
The kids starting a new banner
A pun difficult to translate, more or less is "this is fucking funny", where CCOO is the acronym of a syndicate
No translation needed ;)
"Laughing all the way to the Unemployment line" (thanks Stew for the translation!)
A pun very difficult to translate, more or less "The bank is breaking me" (good try Stew, thanks!) but not exact, I'm sorry...
"Bring out your rosaries from our ovaries"
"We are tired of paying mediocres. Electoral law reform NOW"
Assembly time
Revolution Fuck Yeah
"We still don't be afraid"
La Puerta del Sol is totally taken by the people
"No home, no job, no pension, no fear"
Against two biggest political parties
System error, REBOOT
Remember, remember...
"They don't represent us"
"People's voice will never be illegal"
"Resistance to scientific economic dictatorship"
The firemen are with the people
A view of the square in the evening
Nobody see differences between the two biggest parties in Spain, neither Botín (biggest banker)
Revolution isn't "botellón" (alcohol drinking in the street)
All the streets near Puerta del Sol were full of people, specially near the night
nice cat!
A final message from there: "Stay in Sol". Thousands of people stay there now.

I think this is the only way to have the politicians REALLY scared about what's happening. In the last elections there was a rise of the "none of the above" votes and Spoilt votes, but I think this is useless as long this votes are not reflected on the seats distribution, and PP-PSOE keeps same power as before (one wins, one looses, but they're always there on top). We'll see now... What I like is that this movement is not dead, is still a new born ;)

imHo the problem we have now is that this movement is great and has a lot of people supporting it (in the last polls I think the 75% of spanish population agrees with the #15M/#spanishrevolution movement) but is not represented at all in the parlament. I hope in next elections all this outraged people (as myself, of course) agrees to vote to the same option (more or less as in "Ensaio sobre a Lucidez" from the great Saramago) but this is difficult.

Another great mistake they did was to announce that they captured the spanish top of the Anonymous organization (when the goal of this "organization" is, precisely, that there is no top anywhere) and connect this organization to Al Qaeda in the newspapers!! :S The Anonymous answer was an succesful attack to the police website (LOL).

Politicians here are a little confused, so they though this was a movement without any future, but seeing that people are still protesting is something that they didn't expect ("nobody expects the spanish revolution", as said in some of the protest signs ;)) Their first movements (from politicians, I mean) were charging with the police against the people (an expected and GREAT mistake from them, so this revived the outrage. This charge was first in Barcelona and a few days ago in València).

@Stew: yes, last sunday was the last day of the Sol camping. Some other places in Spain where people are still camping, but it seems they will leave them soon. Anyway, the movement is not finished, this was only the beggining (at least, lot of people hopes this). Now is expected to move the campings to a different places in the same city (camping in different squares in each city) and also carry on with the assemblies in each city district (not only in Madrid and Barcelona, but also in the other great cities in Spain).

Hi, Santi. I am hoping you will update us on developments.
According to what I heard on TVE 24, today is the final day del Sol. Correct? What's going on there?
Abraços,
Stew

thank you very much for the interesting blog. This evening the subject was on the Dutch television aswell. I did not know the situation was that bad in Spain. Though it was bad in Ireland , Portugal and Greece. Hope this will help to get better times.

Me again. I've just looked at all the photos again and they are really a very high standard. They convey much better than the establishment TV news what is REALLY happening there, with a great spirit, union and humour.
the one with the poster of Rajoy: I like this: "Laughing all the way to the Unemployment line!" (Juego con la expresión:
"Laughing all the way to the bank).
Abraços
Stew

A first-class photo-journalistic report Santi. I'm glad you posted it.
I actually think this could be themost significant event going on in Europe today. It has a suggestion of Arab Spring about it, but it is far more active-participative and stimulating than the Portuguese movement that grew up in the winter. Just one march will change nothing, whereas this looks like something that could easily spread. Boy, do we need something different, besides just the growing apathy and cynicism towards the old politicians and their old, worn-out politics devoid of real hope and trust.
