With the fall of the Aztec empire in 1521, the missionaries prohibited the use of percussion instruments since they were considered to be pagans. The missionaries introduced the instruments of rope in l525. The made guitars of the shell of armadillo were created initially in 1531. Considered as a sacred animal, this instrument could be used by the aborigens in his sacred dances as a whole by the Spanish mandolins. This new instrument was called a shell.

It is believed that this one is the reason by which the dancers were called concheros. Others believe that the name comes from the bands of shells (ayoyotes) which are tied about the ankle of the dancer.

The traditional religious dance of the concheros is wrapped in a symbolic reconquest of Mexico. It is said that his foundation goes back to July 25 of 1531 in the one that nowadays is Querétaro's city. Dresses(clothes, garments) in colors disguise, they form a circle and there support wakes the whole night, which combine with practices and catholic and indigenous beliefs. The name of conchero was given originally to a dancer who knew the traditional dances and it was possible to have the kettledrums and to intone prayers to God. When the corporation of concheros of Mexico was founded in 1922, the name of concheros was used for those dancers associated with the corporation. Only the dances of the conquest are inside the digest of the organization.

The ritual dance was called Macehualiztli, which it means (deserving) a popular dance Netotiliztli. The steps of the dance are representative of the nature and the humanity related to the life. The returns and the drafts represent the fertility and other combinations represent the land and the crops. Turning in the air they represent the soul, steps backwards and ahead(forward) the fire, whereas the steps in zig zag mean the water.

In the tradition of dance conchera, they have been preserved, across the rite, the singing and the dance, elements of the former cultures operating in a process of syncretism, which has allowed that the inheritance(heredity) of our ancestors should be still alive in the current Mexico
