Stolpersteine in Kampen

Posted by joopvandijk on May 5th, 2011 | 3 comments | 156 views
Seeing foto's of stolpersteine here at woophy have inspired me to start a stolpersteine initiative in my hometown Kampen.

Stolperstein is the German word for "stumbling block", "obstacle", or "something in the way". The artist Gunter Demnig has given this word a new meaning, that of a small, cobblestone-sized memorial for a single victim of Nazism. These memorials commemorate those deported and killed by the Nazis, mostly in Nazi concentration camps or extermination camps, including Jews, Sinti and Romani people (also called gypsies), members of the Resistance during World War II, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, Christians in opposition to the Nazis and the disabled. The list of cities that have stolpersteine now extends to several countries and hundreds of cities and towns. (Wikipedia)

www.stolpersteine-kampen.nl

At the 21th of april the first 19 stones, 18 of them for jewish vicitms were placed in Kampen.

Demnig placed a stone for Abraham van Ploeg, killed at the riverside

a stone placed for Heintje Vos-Heilbronn, a widow, she died in Westerbork concentration camp

stones for the Boektje family, 7 persons, all killed in Auschwitz

Stolpersteine, a way to remember, a way to never forget, a way to teach the children!

A great idea in my opinion. My respects for these victims. Please me that the children take knowledge, this must not be forget!
Like many Argentinians like who it writes, we think that the oblivion is a complicity.
Regards.
