Downrating

Posted by elly holland on June 18th, 2011 | 20 comments | 588 views
I wasn't sure if I should write this,but I do it anyway.
I know downrating is very annoying and it happens to me almost every day lately.
Now I've been told I'm a downrater by a member.
If I had the intention to downrate I would do that anonymusly and not with a nice comment.
My only "sin" is that I sometimes forget to rate as I want to see all the pictures every day and I always have to less time.
Now I've said it and it's okay for me.
And this is sure not to defend myself,as I'm not a downrater!

I am new to woophy and I didn't realize that people would do that?! I guess I am naive?! I love your photos!! I believe that if I come across a photo that I do not enjoy I simply click to the next photo- I see no reason to rate it poorly. Someone else might think of it as beautiful and love it and I might not get the artistic vision so who am I to rate someone poorly?

Keep up with the beautiful photos! I love seeing them!!

    Dear Elly,

I guess one should not attach too much importance to 'rating'. It is a matter of subjectivity, in my opinion. More than that what matters is the sense of being at Woophy. The pleasure of sharing our pictures and getting responses from our friends from all over the globe! Woophy is a lovely non controversial platform. Let us not allow trivial things like these to rob the basic spirit of WOOPHY.
Elly, Don't let them spoil our fun on Woophy. Keep commenting the way you do & I like everyone of them!

Is not the rating system to rate the pictures then? This is a website for photo enthusiasts, hobbyists as well as professional photographers. There are over 40,000 users registered on this site and probably as many opinions. What I rates to a 1, you can rate a 5. Constructive criticism and tips and hints one have to endure. Negativity and negative criticism one can keep for themselves. Continue with your comments and your ratings, your opinion is equally valid for all of us 40,000 You have many stunning images, so continue with your hobby as always Good luck with your images, I truly appreciate them.

    best regards

Forget about ratings!!!! Just look and enjoy the foto's. I "mindrate" a foto and when I think is is very nice, I rate it with my comment!
I think that downrating itself is a small mental illness, so I feel sorry for the downrater!!

    Hi Elly,

I understand your feelings. Someone made a painful mistake. I hope you can forgive him/her. (One would think that at least some must be getting completely paranoid from Woophy's rating ststem)

    Dear Elly,
I spend the same situation as you and you know it. See the photos that I love to share with are all downrated. But we can not do anything about it. I know who is the person who does this in my photos, but I did not say who is going forward and not make that with him the same things ...I dno't be just like him.
    Be happy dear!!

Hi, Elly. During the month since you took the step to post this, the problem has become far worse, more & more of the most active members are being hit. I think it has never been so bad.
We can all discuss why it is happening, we can offer comfort and support and encourage people just to ignore it and carry on witha smiling face.
Not so easy, I think. The problem has now virtually become "normal", part of the woophy experience. But still, nothing has been done and it is so clear that more and more people are feeling their enjoyment and pleasure attacked and reduced.
I just found this evening Berge Skaatun's declaration and I fear that if this goes on with no answer, more people will feel the same.
I don't care anymore why these pathetic idiots want to downrate. Unless it's because they want to kill woophy (which is a possible reason).
We have 2 kinds of downrater: those who write a comment and finish with '5' or *****, then click on a lower value; and the other group, the anonymous ones. Both are our enemies. One of the first category was highly active last night around midnight. I was one 'victim' of him/her. I saw it happen. I think you also were. And many others were hit in the same way. I won't name the member, but it would be easy to work out who it was.
So, can we do anything ? I believe we can. I believe we must. We have to try, at least. We all have to get together and try something radical - and soon! - because if we don't, then woophy is at real risk of losing what we like best about it - its spirit and feeling of community, as well as the quality and diversity.
    So, who wants to try?
    Grtz
    Stew

Hello Elly ,I just saw this blog today.Don't worry about the downraters they are jalous and have a low self esteem, they like to make trouble between us woophians because they are lonely and have no good friends,I think (who would like a downrater as friend????) they are unhappy people.Perhaps Joris can catch them???? If we all write to him ,he can do something about this !!!!!!!!!!
We love woophy and like to share our pictures together, comments are very important ,the ratings in my pictures don't count for me anymore, its the comments and sharing what are important,if we all think like that woophy will be happy again!! Keep going with your nice pictures Elly !!!Cheer up ,keep photographing! Love from Australia from the other Elly

Elly, I just came across this today. I do not know about the "downraters" but I have scene a lot of comments about them. I for one do not see you as one of these people, but see you as very encouraging and always enjoy your comments and pictures. Remember there are always people who are negative and we can change them, but know I believe most woophy members would agree, you are a great asset to this site and I for one love all your photos

Ok! I agree with all comments above.
I don´t speak English, but I understood the words of our friends.
If I don´t like the picture, I don´t comment and give note. When I comment, my note is ever "5".
Be happy and hugs from Brazil.

The administrator of the site are the responsible for this annoying matter. If they "open" the rating this, will stop immediately. Perhaps they are not interesting in that or perhaps they contribute to that. Because i don't pay anything to woophy i can't arguing with them, actually i don't know them at all.
The other downraters should be frustrated guys and they may be thinking that be in the top of woophy is a prize or they will became top star members. No! be in the top, means you have a lot of "friends" and friends. Some times for quality of the photos but a lot of times just for courtesy of the members. Actually there are guys in woophy totally addicted, in the bad sense. Regards

Hallo, Elly..!! take it easy and don't ruin your blood..it happens that sometimes i feel to be under attack from downraters....one picture has 5* and 20 good comments ,the day after it becomes a 4* and it needs more good comments (and I hope good rating) to reach the 5* again....anyway...Woophy rules are so..and we have to stay or go away. I love Woophy and I'm still here.
Best greetings and wishes from Italy.

Hello Ely. This thing of the downraters is a social problem. There are some reasons for downrating. THIS ONLY MY OPINION I think there are somebody that wants to give some dynamic to this site and downrate some so others can go up, and keep the site interesting. I think also there are someone thinking he is the best and have some problems dealing with others so good as himself. I think that there are others with envy. And some are suns of a lost mother... On thing is truth: In this is a site we can upload photos, show them to the world, and look to some very good pictures down or uprated. Downrating is a problem I have everyday, and I know there are members giving 5 when commenting, and some hours later changing for 3 or less. Be cool

" it's an ill bird that fouls its own nest" We don't want in Woophy such a person!!!!

Elly, I believe you are not a downrater. Don't let them spoil our fun on Woophy. We watch eachothers pictures and give nice comments. ! Forget about the stars en anonieme onderkruipers. it is just dust in the wind.

The whole fuss about rating and downrating is almost becoming a never ending issue, open for dispute, and it keeps causing unnecessary grief and intrigues.
I can understand you were reluctant to go into the matter, but it causes pain when you're accused directly..Of course it isn't about defending yourself, but about giving vent to your indignation...The Woophy platform is supposed to give us joy and relaxation and hopefully we keep experiencing that, despite of the inevitable troubles some people cause sometimes..
