I was a playwright and a member of "The Dramatist Guild which accepted the play I wrote. Career: Educator Communication Arts (Literacy, literature writing. and fine arts) NYC Public Schools, primary education and middle school. In a nYC middle school, I innovated a curriculum that included a tool for monitoring the student's reading and writing skills, and a classroom methodology for discussions that provided a rich context for generating ideas and writing. My students routinely scored at the top of city tests, and were accepted at the top high schools, and my teacher practice was studied in the Pew research for The New Standards. The Ph'd arm of the University of Pittsburgh studied my teacher practice for two years, to match my success to "The Eight Principles of Learning" the Harvard thesis by Lauren Resnick, that underlies the New Standards. In 1998, I was awarded "The Educator of Excellence Award" by the New York State English Council (NYSEC) for my outstanding practice. I am included in "Who's Who Among America's teachers', four times, nominated by high school seniors (graduating with honors) who credit a single teacher as the most important to their own success. E-mails from former students continue to credit me with their success, and careers, as writers and artists. No award can top that knowledge, which demonstrates the real reason I became a teacher.
