Park Hoge Veluwe

Thursday I visited the National Park Hoge Veluwe in my province Gelderland Holland.
Park Hoge Veluwe is a protected park and is the oldest park in Holland.
The park contains woodland, heathland, lakes and driftsand.

While it is so close to my home this was the second time I visited this place.
The reason I don't visit this place that often is the price you have to pay to get in.
It isn't that expensive but we have many nature places with same ingredient as the park hoge veluwe that are for free.

The park is founded by the family Kroeller that bought the land in 1909. Up until 1923 the park was under construction with wildlife being imported and the building of the hunting lodge and fences.
The park has 3 entrances, one on the side of Hoenderloo, one at Schaarsbergen and one by Otterlo.

The Park is so popular not only because of the fantastic nature but also because there is a lot to see. The Kröller-Müller Museum is world-famous for its large collection of paintings by Vincent van Gogh. They offer also a very nice sculpture garden for a nice walk.

Eating and drinking is not a problem in the park, they offer restaurants and terraces where you can enjoy between the great forest.

They offer also excursions as a walk through the park with a guide. In Autumn they show you what you can find in the woodland what you normally don’t see. Also they offer places where you can see wildlife, mostly you are lucky early in the morning and late afternoon.

The best way to visit this park is by bicycle, they offer free bicycles by the park entrances. The white bicycles are famous here in Holland, they are specially made for the park.
They offer 40 kilometres of paths for bicycles.
If you want to see wildlife it is the best way to transport through the park, leave the car by the entrance, this saves money also.

The reason I visited this place were the sand dunes, they are amazing. Here some of my sand shots:

Country Residence / Museum Jachthuis St. Hubertus is the former country residence of Mr and Mrs Kröller-Müller and was designed by the famous Dutch architect Berlage. Its shape recalls a stag’s antlers, and it is named after St. Hubert, the patron saint of hunters.

Nearby the St Hubertus building there is also a old watermill like the american model, but the top of the mill is dissapeared while it wasn't nessacery. Here the part that has left of the mill.

This place is perfect to watch the wildlife, you have the best change to see red Deer, Roe Deer, Wild Boar and Moeflons.
As you can see I wasn't on the right time there.......

Some other nature shots I found in the park:

For more information about the park you can visit their website in Dutch, English and German.

Een prachtig gebied met vele fotografische mogelijkheden. De serie van de zandduinen is goed geslaagd, zeker met wat wolken af en toe.
