"Yes" or "No". Binary rating. When I watch a gallery, or an incoming pic, I do not use the full rating scale. Only the "five stars".
Actually I give "5" when I loved a pic very much, and I point that in my comment: "I loved it <5>". Obviously, I try to give also a pertinent comment. Not very easy, BTW. :-)

Does not mean the pics without <5> have no value.
But , by doing so, I send the following message to the author of the gallery: "IMHO, here is what I consider as the cream of the cream out of your pics. I'm sorry, but I have no time to do more".

I agree in part with you. I'm on Woophy since January 2006, but I got really involved only recently (probably because I will be retired within a few months ... :-) ).
Woophy is an outstanding system, primarily to share pics, then to have nice discussions with people over the world. The problem I encountered was the large size of many galleries. Impossible to watch, to comment and to rate all the pics, even with my attention restricted to those rated "5" or "4".
Close to this is also the tremendous rate of incoming new pics. Once again, no way to watch and comment every interesting photo.

So I quickly adopted the fast system which anyone uses to sort his pics. At least, I think. (to be continued)

In our day-to-day lives people often down-rate us (and for the flimsiest excuses) and this happens here also, because Woophy is essentially a social network.

On the other hand rating stars are perfect for people who wont or cant write comments or maybe they think one star at left means 'first class'.

In sum we cant anticipate or necessarily understand what people will think, comment or rate but we know all these forms of communication are important.

Tottaly agree with Elene, that's why I have stated on my presentation page (NO RATING STARS, please) - I prefer a good critic either positive or negative then any kind of rating.

I did read all the comments Elly ...all of them...and I 'm with you ....Love to have a positive or negative comments ...that why we learn from them...making the picture better and nicer......not from "4" or "5"...but will we change anything ..?......I prefer to read a words...or short discribing about the imag...but will see in future what happen....I agree with you my friend.....Eva.

I never rate ,so iI do jnot have any problem with down/up rating but enjoy many fine photos on Whoopy and agree with Elene . But it's all up to you!

will become too the same! We have to put aside this subject and think that, at least they see our pictures. And what are we doing here? ..to share our photographer moments, surely...So, let go. My kind greetings!

Elena I am agree with you but not 100% . I said to Debbie almost same words than you, Woophy spirit is enjoy with photos, right?. Meet new friends, new cities, new landscapes and learn more things about how make good photos. I have some photos with a lot of coments and only four stars, but I know that true woophians gave me five stars, so it isn't important for me, important is all your coments, all your friendship, I know than you and more people gave me five stars, maybe less, but it is because my photo don't deserve more, not for do damagge me. So I am happy for that, I learned many things here in Woophy, I am lucky for that and also because I could meet some Woophy members in person, it is important for me. Go ahead Woophy!!!

Elene, this is the last time I pay attention to the subject downrating. Ignore is the only possible answer,no reaction no fun for them. I will try to don't talk about it. Lets have fun indeed!

O Elene, downrating people ..first I didn`t know what people were saying about that..I didn`t understand it...the word and meaning..
Now I know..and I only feel sorry about them.
Prr, nice you understand Dutch..ik heb het met hen te doen, of ze kunnen het niet hebben dat de foto`s beter zijn dan die van hun of het zijn afgunstige mensen die perse in de top 10 willen staan?
Plat gezegd het maakt me geen f..k uit, ze doen maar.
Ik beoordeel foto`s soms niet naar hun kwaliteit maar naar het gevoel wat erachter zit( natuurlijk vaak katten :-) ) en ik pleur foto`s op Woophy die ik leuk vind en waarvan ik denk dat andere die ook wel leuk vinden en anders maar niet..ze hoeven niet te beoordelen maar ook zeker niet te veroodelen..
Zelf ben ik niet altijd in de omstandigheden om te "raten", geen tijd, geen zin , te veel pijn om lang te zitten.
Ik beoordeel foto`s enlarge en geef ze vaak 5 zonder een bericht achter te laten.
Nooit onder 3 en zeker geen 0,1,2..maar ook nooit zet ik op dat ik 5 geef en dan niet rate of duidelijk minder geven..en dat zie ik vaak gebeuren.
Maar nogmaals, het zal me een worst zijn..ik leef er niet van!
Mijn humeur is eerder afhankelijk van mijn gezondheid dan van alle perrikelen op Woophy.
De Woophy clan is in principe een erg leuke en hechte clan en laten we dat zo houden..mede dank zij die downraters..(sort of)
Mensen die zich er zo druk om maken en iedereen en alles beschuldigen zouden er verstandig aan doen om eens een leven buiten Woophy te gaan zoeken..want Woophy is in ons leven maar is geen leven op zich, er is meer..

A good idea Elen, I have tried it before, but people are still rating because they don't read the text I think. I stopped years ago worrying downrating and I love your comments much more.

I never use the lowest rating, but also not always the best rating! I only give 5 ***** when I find a picture breathtaking!

But this whole isue about downrating makes me scared to rate at all!!!!!!!! Tastes differ............that is life

Elene, To be a fair “judge” this is a problem for many people. Your suggestion is great but how do you see ....... it is only a fun and real life does not give us too many reasons to have fun !

Unfortunately a continuing sad story. Of course all pics are not of the same quality but repeatedly using the lowest possible rating just to harm other people is damaging this site.
Maybe that is the object of the people involved.
I would prefer putting an end to anonymous rating but I am afraid woophy's management does not agree.
Unfortunately Joris does not even react to clear notifications of abuse so.......................

Maybe it's an idea.I must say the last two days I've not been downrated yet.But rating is such a habit,at least for me it is.When I like an image it deserves rating I think.It's such a pity some people are spoiling our fun right now.
