Serendipidity, or the ghost boat

Posted by Aline on June 29th, 2009 | 11 comments | 622 views
Two days ago, 6 o'clock in the morning. I was walking in the swamp along the Charente river, near the numerous fishing cabins, watching the sunrise.
A very fine moment, as the mist was slowly raising from the ground, in the gold light.

I turned back the sun, going west in the direction of the river mouth, when I saw a very high silhouette coming silently and slowly from the fog.

It costed me several seconds before be sure I was actually seeing the three-masted ship Belem sailing from La Rochelle to Rochefort.
I was a dreamy picture, as copied from a movie. I suppose the view could be nice for someone waiting for it... But how can I describe my feeling seeing this monster emerging from nothing, as I didn't expected it ?

At this moment the sun cames, and in some seconds I could take several pictures

The Belem is well-known is our region, it often berts in La Rochelle. I knew it was coming back, but I expected it stayed there.

Very interesting story and illustrated - I would say as usual - by beautiful pics. I'm very interested also by the word "serendipity" not so common, you use in your title.
Fortunately serendipity is the "shining" part of a photographer"s life ! I opened a few weeks ago a thread on serendipity ...http://www.woophy.com/forum/6_3945_0.html#msg24925043

It seems like a dream to me, so so beautiful...
In the early mornings when I'm lying in bed awake listening to my daughters breathing I often think about your early morning walks and the beutiful sights you manage to capture in to your photos...and every time I see a morning mist betwen the hills it reminds me of you...

In someway I can imagine what you felt Aline, I think every photographer has the longing to encounter such a ship coming out of the fog........it hasn't to be especially a ship, but something or somewhat you never expected....the surprise , the thrill, the excitement .......great pictures btw!!
