WhaT Is GettinG On My NerveS On WoophY

Yes, as a lot of members, I really dislike to have to click and click and clik before being able to watch a picture in its large format. It costs time, It favorizes the success of "eye-catching" pictures and deserves the high-quality photographic work.

But usually, what is really getting on my nerves is the consequence of such system : the appearance of the magic sentence "Please Enlarge" in numerous picture's presentation.

I understand very well the individual motivation of all member using it, and respect it, but unfortunately the frequency and the insistence of this sentence reminds me furiously the spam I receive almost daily in my junk mail box, proposing me to enlarge something I have not.

If I want to watch quietly at a picture, I don't need to be asked for.

I suppose tht only way to stop this new kind of spam is to display directly the pictures in their large format. yes, they deserve it. Please, Marcel, do something !

I agree, if a photo catch your attention you will enlarge it or maybe not, ( I did ask for it some time, I confess) but as everything in life, is optional, I’m with the idea of catkiller, in order to develop a different “tool” as the slide show, I also agree with Aline about the charge in order to help woophy with the expenses of the site, but let me tell you that is easy to propose, but the site needs help, my grandfather always set the same to people who gives him an idea, “every good idea is always welcome, but I’m a man with bad memory, so, please write me your idea on the back of a check, otherwise I will forget it”, regards from México, Héctor

Joris, I never thought the picture formats could be a factor for the bandwidth, so could have a financial impact for the site.
It is good to explain that ! I will remind.

In this case, it could be a good reason to think about implementing, in the future, two services : a free one with limited weekly posts, and a paying one, as so many other sites do ?
I'm sure there is a lot of members who would accept to be charged.

when we started Woophy it was not so normal to send so many kb's over the internet. We had to be a little scrooged with our bandwidth also to keep teh website fast. I guess now in the Youtube era bandwidt is less of an issue (although they spent $ 470.000.000 on bandwith and soem additional costs last year

After all, it is not a good idea to drop the hit-parade, but I have a suggestion: pics should enter the hit-parade ONLY if they reach a certain ratio of large views/total comments (or total votes). I am going to develop the idea (a bit) in the Suggestion Forum.

Some statistics on the top-rated pics of this week: number of large views/number of comments:
    9/51
    18/50
    28/50
53/36 (not a mistake! pic by Willy Broks)
    18/46
    10/33
    12/49
    9/34
    20/55

I think it's high time that Woophy stops with this hit-parade; it's frankly meaningless.

You're right, asking for "Please see it large" wouldn't be needed! I was also tempted to write it before (mainly when I realized most members weren't doing it almost never;)), but agree it's irritating... for those who always do it as they should! Well, some suggestions for Marcel, as yours, maybe will help to improve this aspect of Woophy.

    p.s.

i like catkillers idea - or at least the option of just pushing the left or right arrows to flip to the next picture.

yes a also agree, (though im not "annoyed" by it) it seems almost like a running joke. i thought maybe we should ask to have those words put on the thumbnails, as an obnoixious option while uploading!

if you are reading this comment, please read it in small form. it is not worth much!

I agree with you, the now often "please enlarge" in the pcture's presentation is irritating. I always see at the enlarged picture before commenting and rating and if I want to see all the previous comments, this needs to click several times.
I think that displaying the picture directly in large size would be a real improvement. I don't understand that one can judge only with the small size picture.

the possibility of doing a slide show would be great. speciallly if it can be paused when something calls your attention and needs to be commented on.

You are absolutely right. I NEVER comment (or rate) a pic unless I have seen it large ... and everybody should do the same.
