I use Canon DPP and Lightroom. Photoscape for me is the best free program, and I am using it too...

Has anyone tried Pixlr? This on-line editor is every bit functional and comprehensive as some other professional applications.

Zoom.it is a free service for viewing and sharing high-resolution photos. Provide it with a link to any image, and witness the somewhat amazing result.

Three of the absolute best free image compression applications:

RIOT
Caesium
PNGGauntlet

IMHO, RIOT is the best tool available at no cost.

Miguel,

Glad to be helpful.

BTW, did you watch the El Classico? The Portuguese glamour-boy was on a par with Messi.

SpaceSniffer is a freeware that displays the size of your files and folders in a visual “Treemap” representation.

Use it to check out "visually" what folder, or for that matter which file, is a real hard-drive hog.

I frequently use it to scour out the crap I have installed; like, just a couple of moments ago I ran it and "saw" that Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 had taken up 1.2 GB of my HDD. I have unistalled Elements now (which I had used just 7 times -- what a bloated up software!).

Give it a try, I am sure it would end up as one of your indispensable utilities.

PS: File Pro, it's a freeware for the pros that does even much more.

@NGC: Thanks again! Always so many interesting suggestions!!!

I've just tried SpaceSniffer and it's amazing! A great help to be conscious about waht makes your disk space fly so fast! Other features yet to try, but only this one is amazing indeed!

FilePro already downloaded but waiting for being executed in a few days

Thanks again! Oh, yes, I watched the "clássico", later at night, as at that same time another clássico took place here and I saw it alive: FC Porto.2-0.Sporting CP

GeoSetter lets you write geotags to your images, allowing you to view their location on a map with any application that supports geotagging metadata.

This freeware is integrated with Google Maps. You can use the map to search for the city or address where the photo was shot. If your images already contain geo data, you can use the programme to view their location on the map and/or update the existing data.

GeoSetter also enables you to view and edit IPTC/XMP data, change EXIF dates, assign personal ratings, search for images by meta data, and much more.

Other advanced features include support for GPS synchronization and tracks, export to Google Earth, image renaming, favourite image locations, support for RAW formats, customizable data preferences, Explorer integration and several other advanced options.

On first run, GeoSetter feels a bit overwhelming, but as you settle down, you begin to appreciate the myriad and rich functions the author has laboriously integrated into a single entity.

I know Picasa and Lightroom let you map the images, but GeoSetter is standalone, portable and by far superior to them.

I have been using it for more than a year now to geotag my images, as my rudimentary camera doesn't support GPS.

In my opinion, it's the best geocoder for Windows that is without charge. All the 'globetrotters' of Woophy, give it a try.

PS: Is geotagging images out of vogue?

I have two questions:

a) is there a fundamental difference with the way Flickr does geotagging?
b) is there any reason for Woophians to use it, as Woophy doesn't support geotagging at all?

P.S. I installed it (briefly, I am afraid), but it is seems far from user-friendly for me.

Dearest ortho158,

I'll start with your postscript; I had written in paragraph 5 that "On first run, GeoSetter feels a bit overwhelming, but as you settle down, you begin to appreciate the myriad and rich functions the author has laboriously integrated into a single entity."

You gave up too soon just owing to the fact that you disliked the GUI. But that's a valid choice of yours.

As for your 2nd question (b); Most of the Woophians (barring me) are globetrotters. They can export selected images and GPS tracks to Google Earth, and then can witness a clear track or path they followed. This particular feature is my favourite bit. By the way, the data can also be exported to a GIS application.

And for your 1st question (a); Believe you me, not an inkling of idea.

Profound regards.

PS: At least you tried it out, great!

Dear NGC300,

I am a globetrotter. I even visited you beautiful country (a long time ago, in 1985).
I like the idea of putting my pics on map, and following my track, and that's why I experienced geotagging in Flickr and Travellerspoint, where it's rather straightforward.

Please be assured that I do appreciate that you share your experience on Imaging software with us.
Cheers, alain

NGC, thanks again!

Already downloaded it, with just a quick look for now (my "homework" hasn't allowed me yet).
But it looks really interesting! To explore!

Best regards from Porto,

Miguel

BorderMaker enables to add borders, text overlays, and watermarks to images.

One can add solid colour or overlay borders to the images, optionally with rounded edges and transparency or create personal border styles with several blending modes.

It also supports image resizing with optional sharpening, advanced file renaming and optional FTP upload.

Personally, I don't like the layout; nevertheless, a nice freebie for framing images on the fly.

PS: BorderMaker is portable, 2.5 MB only and cross-platform -- Amazing!
