I think it is nice to talk about. I just discovered there is a lot of nice stuff for free. Now I use Photofiltre, Heliconfiltre and Picasa, but on my Ipad I use something different, I dont know what. But it would be nice if we inform eachother about the possibilitys and our thoughs about it. Excellent topic to talk about.

Hello Trudy Tuinstra,

I see that you use the basic Photofiltre. If you want the registration licence for the complete PhotoFiltre Studio X (version 10.5.0), then I can provide you with one.

I have 44 giveaway (free) licences that remove the 30-day trial period constraint.

Regards.

I use PhotoScape and in the past I used Picasa only to straighten the background when needed.Because I don't like using Picasa, I wonder if you know another free program to straighten up pictures. With PhotoScape it's not possible Regards Dieneke

Dear Dieneke,

Checkout Serif's Photo Plus (SE), this freeware would help. There are a couple of others too. If you don't like Photo Plus, then do tell me.

By the way, just why did you stop liking Picasa, any specific reason?

Regards.

Hi Dieneke!

It's possible to straighten in Photoscape but it's a bit tricky!

It took sometime for me to find out how!

Unfortunately I don't have it in my PC in Sweden, only in Brazil, otherwise I could tell you exactly how to do it.

You have to use grids and rotate it slowly until you can see that the horizon line is straight and then you just crop the image.

Maybe it's no a big help, but I can assure you that this function exists in Photoscape!

Another free software that's good and do almost the same as Photoshop is GIMP.
The only difference is that in Photoshop you do things almost automatically using some short commands and in Gimp you have to it manually!

I don't use a single editor.
I always start with Canon DPP (Digital Photo Professional) to convert from raw files (the only ones I take) to tiff (later to jpeg). Sometimes I don't go further than with DPP as it's excellent for the basic (and more) features, the best for that conversion for canonists.
Depending on what result I want, I can then take advantage of Adobe Lightroom (3.6, now 4.1), or Photoscape, or Helicon Filter 4.9.3 free (or, ocasionaly, but seldom, PhotoFiltre Studio X and Gimp). In a few times, when HDR (not overused) is better than without, I use Photomatix Pro 4.1.
I'm curious about a future use of Photoshop, mainly about what "layers" allow.
For organizing and use plugins Lightroom is the best. For unique simple use features I do enjoy Photoscape. The one I know better (and most used in the past) is Helicon Filter.

@Dieneke: you do have the feature you want in Photoscape. In the main page of the editor, see the symbol below sepia converter. Also you have it in the free version of Helicon Filter (4.9.3). And all the others, too. Yes, the main problem with Picasa is that it's not so good as all the others I mentioned: the pic quality degenerates quickly with a few changes and you don't see that result so easily. Good for sharing through its albums

Mr. Oliveira,

My word! You use an arsenal of editors as and when required.

@Dieneke.... is this the way you want to straitened you picture...tilt from left to right ??
Or do you mean, its bending over (like an a wide angle lens..and you want it straight..Thats also possible in Photoscape, in Dutch: ga naar Zeef (Filter)...Vervormingsgrappen...Weglooplijnen.

There you can setting a building straight..you have to crob the edges afterwards, so you need space left and right of the building

@NGC300: (sorry for not knowing your real name) Please don't call me Oliveira nor Mr. It makes me feel... older and serious
Greetings,
Miguel

@Jan: I guess Dieneke looks for the first situation as Picasa wasn't able to help in the second one, as she already did in the past. Anyway, yours it's also a good tip for wideangle tilt. Even with more options for that situation you also have Helicon Filter (distortion tab, too).
Hugs,
Miguel

I think Dieneke does not mean straightening only.
In my opinion ( as Miguel) Helicon View is best in solving distortions created by holding the camera in another angle than the vertical one. It is a bit trying but within the tab distortions (vervormingen) you find many options of which I mostly use the vertical option, and the slope (schuin) option but also the others can be very helpful and are userfriendly.
Asfar as I know this function does not exist in Photoscape..........

Thank you all for your advise and suggestions!!! I was looking for a solution of a "tilt" photo, now I have many ways to deal with that and I will try what works the best for me.First I will try with PhotoScape...let you know how it went.
Again many thanks
Hugs Dieneke

Life can be so simple Feeling stupid I didn't discover that the symbol was for straightening
Happy that it's clear now.I will look into the other programs that you all mentioned.
@NGC300: I don't like Picasa because it's uploading everything from my computer in their files. Thanks for pointing out so clear how to find the symbol.
@all the rest:thanks for the help

I use Photoscape a bit.Lots of Picasa and I am on a Photoshop course right now.But that's very difficult. At least I think it is.
And I'm still figuring out how DDP from Canon works.I just have to less time to do that!

@Jan:Have you tried Corel's Aftershot Pro? I am giving it a try nowadays.

@NGC300, No I did not try Corel yet, I did checked responses on the net..; It's not very uplifting... think I will wait a bit longer, trying to make better pictures.

Pros
Fast display of large raw files. Good auto-correction. Accepts and includes industry-standard plug-ins.
Cons
Weak import feature. Interface could be friendlier. No dual-monitor support. Very limited camera and lens profiles. No red-eye correction. No Web or e-mail sharing features.
[i] Bottom Line
Corel needs to step up its game if it wants a serious contender in the photo workflow space. Though it's fast and has some decent photo adjustment and retouching tools, AfterShot lacks basics such as red-eye correction and Web sharing.
