The Zinneke Parade was held yesterday in Brussels, for the fifth time. In local dialect, "zinneke" means a stray dog (or bastard, or mixed-breed) and, by extension, it is the nickname of the inhabitants of Brussels, who are neither Walloons nor Flemish (or, who are both, simultaneously). The Parade is held every two years, and promotes the multicultural and cosmopolitan aspect of Brussels. More info on their website in French, and Dutch. There were around 20 groups, with more than 2000 participants, who walked in the center of Brussels (from Place Ste-Catherine to Grand-Place). There are very few decorated trucks (like in most carnivals): the emphasis here is on people.
It is extremely colourful ...

There is a lot of music ...

They dance ...

The costumes and make-up are gorgeous ...

A lot of kids were participating ...
And all of them were having a lot of fun.

I hope you don't mind the quantity of pictures: they only represent 10% of what I shot

Nice coverage of this event, didn't know it existed. Later this week I certainly will have a closer look on some of those pics...

Ortho, you lucky men. I never heard off it. Shame on me probably. Watching your pictures I got the impression it is worth while to be there next time. A lot off people, a lot off ambiance, a lot off crazy people, (I wonder why I always feel comfortable with crazy people ... Keep me in touch for in two years, will you? Thanks for sharing. Grtz, Rik
