Hi Woophians. Last sunday I shot this picture in Antwerp : an historic and a modern building side by side :

A big contrast hein!? For sure you have a picture wich shows us contrasts. I am thinking on pics off : young versus old, rich versus poor, big versus small, power versus weakness, .... Who joins me?
Grtz, Rik.

Hotel "New York" used to be the shipping terminal to America in the old days. Today it's a hotel and surrounded by skycrapers.

The name of the strange building (not the silver one) is Montevideo, right?
It was named "Montevideo" because when it was constructed, the port of Montevideo (my city) was one of the most connected ports with the port of Rotterdam, so on in the port of Rotterdam they have a cargo space with the name of each city they connect with and from there they got the name of the building.

Interesting topic, Rik. Over these past few years, Belfast has been transformed with new buildings being erected all over the city. This picture shows three stages in that continuing process -

At the rear, a modern glass skyscraper. In front of it, a building from the 1950s, and to the right, the old Custom House, built in the late 19th. Century at another time when Belfast's prosperity was on the rise. It is, sadly, interesting to note that the architectural interest decreases from the oldest, to the youngest ( basically, a filing cabinet for people ! ). Hope I have not offended too many architects by that statement !

Hi Rik,
Does vertical versus horizontal count?

A challenging topic!

I think this detail is quite suitable for this interesting topic;

O.k. the doorhandle is not the newest but it shure is much younger than the (remainings of) knocker
