Jan Wolkers, writer and artist from the Netherlands, died today. Guus Koelman made some nice photo's on his 80th birthday.

Jan Wolkers, artist, poet, writer, lover of nature, resident of the island Texel, since 2006 freeman of Texel ,died.
He made this glass sculpture as a symbol for the dikes who protect us against the sea.
The words on the socle are "till here and no further"
When couple of years ago the sculpture was several times destroyed by onknown barbarians, they made the decision not to restore it. Now there is only the socle left.
This aquarel he made as a plan of an other glass sculpture by order of the municipality of Texel, it stays now in the middle of a pond in the village Den Burg.

it is a pity he died. At school we were "forced" to read books for our exams dutch. At that time I hated to read, but.....after reading "een roos van vlees" I didn't stop reading....

Indeed a great author, I looked for my signed copy's when I read in the newspaper that he died. All my copy's are well read and taped with sellotape.
