thnx nature , I feel honoured.....:D...The tomatoes were the very first attempt to do something like that. And once you get the taste of it you trie somemore. The tomatoes I'm thinking of to work on, because the B&W is now with what I've learned here on woophy not satisfying anymore. But I found some more......

Just my humble opinion.... Selective color pics remind me too much of these fancy postcards you can buy in these fancy giftshops. Don't realy like those and hence I don't realy like this style of talking photographs.
Next to that I think that one has to take pictures with a minimal amount of post-processing and this selective color-style would only be allowed (to be done by myself) if it would serve a purpose in the composition.
My opinion would be that you shouldn't take a picture if you know beforehand that it's going to give you a bad case of RSI to get the picture you'd want.
But then again.... My humble opinion....

@bunny & @ray9: The answer to your question is: Layers. One layer b&w and the other layer on top of that with just the piece of image that you'd want coloured. And then play with opacity. There you go. Another fancy postcard is born. *sticks out his tongue* (-;
Nah, jus kidding about the post-cards. If you like this kind of work please do so. I don't want to be somebody who is always critisizing what people like or dislike (-:

Hi all,
I really like this subject.
It is only recent that I've started to appreciate this style.
The one that I like most is the one by de stilte (tomato)
My first two tests

hm...
The way I make these selective colour pics is quite different.
Just select colour range - use the colour picker and click on the object that I want to
keep (several times to get the entire range), than invert selection and add the parts that
I don't want to keep, invert selection again and adjust contrast and saturation, invert selection again and desaturate.
Could you give me some feedback on this please? Is this too much work? not enough work? ... will I have problems with this way in the future and why?
(I've only tried it twice)
Thanks,
Wesley

@all:Thanks a lot for all this reply! The photos are very good!!! :D
As I couldn't explain only with my English how I make this effect I try to make a small tutorial. I hope it'll be enought clear... :S
It's with photoshop elements 2.0 but I think it's nearly the same with other software like Paint Shop Pro.
This tip don't use lawyer ;) (Bunny) but I'm not sure that the tool "replacement of color" (if it's the good translation)... exist in the other version. As we can see Wesley's one works very well too, so choose wich one is easiest for you... :)

many thanks to all, i tested some of your advices : i selected the flag with the wisard tool +zoom + wizard fonction add to the selection, to have all the flag ,then i went to selection --> invert (maj+ctrl+i) , then i went to accentuation--> regulate the color --> delete the color (maj+ctrl+u)
here is the result:
not so difficult to do and on my point of vue a good think to make somethink in value
