In July/august we are going to make the journey of our dreams, we are going to visit America. We have a drive around, starting in L.A.

Because we have safed a long time for this journey and we only have three weeks, I would like to have all the tips and previews of the places we are going to visit.

We made all arrangements for hotels and the car, so we have a good scheme, but were are the spots we surely should not miss, were are the places we can taste real American food, how to behave in Las Vegas, what shall we buy to bring home as remeberance and all other ideas you have and we need to know.
Of course we are reading guides and looking at maps, but I would love to hear the Woophystories!
And of course, see the pictures!

holy cow! thats one big trip covering a ton of stuff!! im in san diego now (phoenix last week) you may regret you time in "the valley" (phoenix/scottsdale) in august though. i hope your air conditioner works well, and drink tons of water, you WILL fry there! driving from grand canyon to phoenix is also beautiful through the mountains, (and fun if you drive fast!). i love spending time in az, and i go there every spring when its not blisteringly hot, and the baseball teams are starting their training.
i suggest staying outside of l.a. for most of the time. unreasonable i know, as youre probably looking forward to seeing many things there. imo too much traffic, and quite dirty to just wonder around aimlessly, so plan your time there well.
personally, as you drive up the coast i would take highway 1 instead of highway 101 IF YOU HAVE THE TIME, especially through monterey, its an amazing drive, unless you get motion sickness. theres also hearst castle to see on the way going north.
all this being said, im no expert. im a total "midwestern" guy from chicago! but i have to go eat breakfast now so i must stop. (one thing i AM an expert on is food however!) i hope you have the time of your life

i liked Bodie, the ghost city behind yosemite park a lot. it was quite impressive what the gold rush did to this town. if you wanna see that much in only 3 weeks, then skip LA and San Diego IMO. Las Vegas is interesting for one day, but not more. the american calls it 'the disney land for adults', so you can imagine what expects you there . certainly lot to see in citis, but the nature in this area is much more interesting then the citis. and if you visite allready the yosemite, then make also a trip to the near sequoia national parc. there are the oldes and biggest mammut trees of our wolrd. very impressive! (just between yosemite and death valley on your map.) the only citi i can recomment is san francisco. i lifed there for a year, years ago. wonderful place wish you a lot of fun! enjoy it and bring a lot of nice pictures back! we wanna see them all (if woophy still exist until then ) greetings

In May I will fly from Amsterdam to San Francisco for my sister in San Jose to visit, I will take any event to Yosemite National Park and along the coastal road to LA. I will then show you my pictures here on Woophy. I can then maybe give you tips on meeting Alkmaar. Michael Sorry for my bad English

@ Kolibri. Can't wait to see you again. @ Brigitte: It is planned in the middle I cannot help it. But going further on the journey being a milionair must be a great feeling @ Tensionhead. Thanks for your storty. What do people wear if the temperature is that hot? We are not used to that. Did you made some pictures also? I would love to see them. @Kolibri again: you had no luck? @ Bunny I just read the news that Woophy will be there for at least six month, so I am able to show you a lot of pictures, thanks for your tips, I wrote them all down in my note-book. @Michael I am looking forward to meet you. Perhaps we can arrange something with entrycards from the Nartional Parks?

from my experience, americans are "masters" of meals! (personal experience) i have pictures of course, but mostly wont post too many - (spring training baseball types.)
all areas of u.s. have such different types of people, youll find very more laid back atmosphere in AZ and northern california. i highly suggest a sunset walk in san diego at "torrey pines" state park. awesome "short" (300 feet at places) cliffs along the beach - we did some nice hiking on top, but the beach was great.
im not saying this so as to try to change your plans, but i am surprised at your time with grand canyon/page/bryce canyon. that may get a little old after 4 days of desert canyons...though i would love to visit page, never had the chance! keep you head covered, drink lots-o-water and dont forget your shorts

I'm back, I would first like to say it was wonderful, San Francisco is a very beautiful city, the Yosemite park also . Fantastically, the coast between SF and LA. LA myself I did not like so well, it has seen its best days. Very nice is the Paul Getty Museum in LA, it's worth a visit. I hope you have a great time, your schedule's very tight. Greeting Michael PS: I will upload my pictures step by step
