Last Sunday, Kolibri organized a visit of the Port of Antwerp for the 11th birthday of Evi, the daughter of Nonkel Duvel. In addition to Kolibri and Evi, there were of course Nonkel and Petra Duvel, Jules (a friend of Evi), Ortho158 and Josette ... and Django (Kolibri's dog).
The day started under the rain.

We saw two abandoned churches right in the middle of the Port, and then we came to the Berendrecht lock. It's the largest in the world, even bigger than those in the Panama canal. It's 500 m long, 68 m wide, and 17 m deep.

While we were watching ships coming out of it, I spotted a photographer with a ladder (the camera in the left hand, the ladder in the right).

Around noon, we arrived in Lillo, a village that sits right in the middle of the Port. It faces Doel, on the other shore. Here are the participants for the day (Jules, Evi, Petra, Josette, Kolibri, Django) without Nonkel Duvel, too busy photographying Doel from here.

In the afternoon, we boarded a Flandria boat, for another visit of the port. Now, the weather was much better, and we were lucky to have the sun shining through dark clouds.

We ended the day in a beautiful place, the Pomphuis ...

... where Nonkel Duvel had one of his many Duvels of the day.

Thanks again, Jan, for this great day!

I love the way light falls on harbor construction and cranes when it comes through the clouds. But I wish the weather had been better for your outing!

A few others ...

Here, the lock is partly open, and the first tow-boat entered it. There is another (small) ship next to the large one, and another (large) behind the first).

Detail of the tow-boat ...

... and of the cabin and the pilot.

A great place for a photoshoot. I like to wander around ports. The port of Antwerpen looks a lot like the one here in Amsterdam.
Good to see you had a fun trip again. Hope to see you all soon.

A lovely record of what appears to have been a great photoshoot. Evi is very lucky to have such inventive friends and family. I hope she had a wonderful day.

The additional pics by Kolibri, and again by Orthos158, add terrific detail to the shoot.

Thanks for sharing.
