Hello Woophians,
Saturday, 25 august. I'm together with some Woophy-members. We're drinking a beer. I'm talking with Graaf about the "Rue de Boucher" in Brussels. Then he tells me very silently that he will make a trip through Asia with Australia as final destination.
A few months later. We're chatting with each other. I'm sitting in a cold, rainy Belgium, he's sitting in hot, sunny Laos. He left on the 1st October. He visited already Dubai, India, Thailand and Nepal.
Graaf
It's a trip full of contrasts. He has fun on the paradisaical beaches, but he has also eyes for the living conditions of the local (poor) people. He uses fast planes, but he isn't afraid to travel several days in an overcrowded, old train.
You can follow his journey on his site http://sofarfromsofa.googlepages.com
He's writing his experiences down on the site. His texts come right from the heart, sometimes funny, sometimes very serious,... It reads very easy, also when your first language isn't English ! So, don't hesitate and have a look !

PS : Maybe you're asking yourself why Graaf didn't post this topic. The problem he has is that in many so called 'Internet cafe's' the internet connection is esthablished with an 56 Kb modem. For those who know a bit about the broadband technique, this is old fashioned! Also uploading pictures from 2 MB or higher doesn't work, because you have to wait 2 hours for one picture... So he asked me to post this topic !

Nonkel, thank you for giving us this peek at Graaf's great journey and for the link to his site. The weather here is supposed to be bad tomorrow (ice) so, if we have power, I plan to spend some time reading his stories and viewing his pictures. That should brighten the day.

Thank you NOnkel for these amazing pictures.
I wrote a whole post about the fact that I would want to go on such amazing trip, but i can't. It would have been boring to read, so I erased it.... :D
I'm planning to drive to the coast in a few days - that will be the farthest I go in the last 6 months!!!! I seriously need a vacation!!!!!
Hugs to all,
Nathan

I have been wondering where Graaf was (I knew he was off on some adventure but didn't realize he has a website) so thank you VERY much for the update and links. I can't wait to catch up now.

Maybe Joris could include the link in the news?
(If i remember right, the woophy 2.0 sneak peak in one of the earlier news pages revealed a possibility to put together such travelogues on woophy in the future. I fmany contribute that would be a great collection, from a day in Gent to such epic journeys like this one.)

Oh, and, Graaf, once in Australia, make sure to buy this one for an incredible funny holiday reading matter that resembles your trip:

Just a short message from 'Graaf' himself......
I'm a bit ambashed about all the interest that Woophy members are giving me, particularly for our very simple, basic and almost non-professional website.......
Also thanks to Ive (Nonkel Duvel) that he posted this topic.....I felt myself a bit ashamed that I didn't found (or made!) the time to have a look on photos of any of you!. On the other hand I think that most of you probably understand that sitting behind a screen of a cmputer in a humid internet cafe is the last thing I want to spend my time on during this trip....
So if any of you wants to receive a personal update of 'sofarfromsofa' once in a while.....?.......just write me an email by contacting me on one of my pictures. I wil put you in my list.
And maybe I will find the time to meet one of you on our trip?....who knows.
Thnx again!
