Generally speaking I prefer the northern countries/landscapes because the light is so pure and special. Of course on the southern hemisphere the same holds for the more southern countries (but I don't have experience over there). If I have to name a country I would say Iceland. The purity of the Icelandic landscape is breathtaking. And the colours are very special with all kinds of brown-greens with a magnificent deep blue sky above it.
A few examples of "northern" countries:
Iceland
Canada
Sweden

Pansa I must agree with you. In general personally I prefer landscapes and nature to cities, and when it comes to landscapes I msut say that i prefer open whide areas and I find the best example of that in northern and usually cold places.

I agree, Highlands of Scotland are good (especially with the aurorae), I'd like to also go to Venice again, especially during the festival when people are wearing the masks. Would make very good dramatic photos if taken well.

The Puna.
It is a high altitude region in the Andes of northern Argentina and Chile, western Bolivia and southern Perú. It is full of screaming yellow grass, snow white salt pans; blue, emerald, cyan and red lagoons with salt crusts; sand dune desert, rock desert, desert that look like they are made of - mhhh - nothing at all; flamingoes, perfectly cone shaped volcanoes with a white top amitting small puffs of strangely coloured whatever; forests of ice pinnacles; violet, red, yellow and green mountains; ghost towns with banks robbed by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid although this area is definetely not one were Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head.
Lonely Planet describes this landscape as hallucinogen and psychedelic.
And it is the only place were you can conveniently 'climb' a 6100m high mountain by car on an abandoned sulfur mine road. This is the vista towards the Volcan Ollagüe just after sunset:

I'd go for New York. But ironically didn't get to experience this actively because I had a bad camera with me and photography was not al real active hobby of mine when I was there.
Why NY? Because of the diversity of neighbourhoods, architecture, people, etc. Everytime I watch the new NY-pics on woophy I'm stunned.

I like every new place that I visit on this world so I have no favorite that I have to photograph. I like landscapes, city's, old building, industrial and so on. So my wish is to visit as much of our world as possible.
And during that discovery I discover myself what the most beautiful place is.

I am with Oscar: my favourite places are the ones I have not seen yet (apart from the West coast of Scotland...)

Every place on earth is the 'best' place to take pictures, because every place and city has his/her own beauties.
Although the landscapes of Australia are pretty amazing imo ;-)
