After photographing for various companies in the past year in the port of Rotterdam, I was finally able to gain access to the ECT-terminal on the Maasvlakte. Instead of working on assignment, I was allowed to photograph there in preparation for an photographic exhibition on the harbor, which will start in the upcoming months accompanying the 75th anniversery of the Rotterdam Harbor company.
I was accompanied by Hugo de Wolf (36clicks) and we were allowed to spend several hours on the terminal, shooting its operations. As an industrial photographer, I have always been fascinated with the harbor and its installations and I was very happy with some of the imagery I had been able to make. I did notice however, that lots of people don't like the harbor at all and I'm curious as to the opinions here. I've included several images from my ECT visit and some more that I took earlier and I'd love to hear what you guys think about it (both in terms of subject matter and photographically)
(I regularly get questions about why my images are posted this small: I'm under contract by a stock agency that doesn't allow me to post my imagery any larger...)

Hi Teun, you have a great serie of pics of this great industrial landscape. I like this kind of pictures very much. It is a great job to make great pics of some ugly industry. And it is hard to shoot some nice pics I discovered myself.
I just made a nice serie of pics of the Landschaftspark in Duisburg that I placed in a forum post, have a look if you like.
You said it yourself that these pics are very small but I can imagine your problem with the stocksites. But you can see the good quality of these pics althought they are small.

Agree with Oscar_, industrial area's are always a gratefull subject.....it doesn't move ..;-) just kidding.
You've made some wonderfull photo's , the last one is IMO one of the best, the blue contrasting the stainless steel and with a touch of warmth from the lights.
It is a pic that fits very good in a brochure.

Hi Teun, your photo's are perfect, the colours, the compo, etc...
I think it's good for the economy that we have this industry, the other side is that it's not nice in the landscape.
But all what we do, it has always two sides, Netherland is just to small to relize great factory's at an other place.

Teun, your pictures of the Maasvlakte are great, and it looks beautifull on a photo, however, sometimes if I walk in that region, I am bothered by the industry and smell! but I agree, it looks splendid!

Hi Teun,
What a coincidence, I went in Europoort past week, and make several pictures of the "De Maasvlakte Centrale".
I dislike the urban areas, but in the meantime, I'm fond of harbors and heavy industrial areas.
I pictured some of them in my city La Rochelle, but the sites as so little, compared to Europoort ... a fabulous site ! More than 40 kilometers of continuous industries, it is absolutely amazing.
But as Oscar_ said, I'm discovering it is extremely difficult to make good night pictures, and I spent a long time in the cold wind, trying several methods. Pfff !
It's seems you are involved with 36Clicks in a very interesting project. All my congratulations ! I hope we will see the final result in the future somewhere on the web.

Love your last shot! I would have tried to get more of a balance between the smoke stack and the lighthouse and I prefer my horizons straight, but it's still a lovely shot!

Industrial complex of DuPont. I love industry pictures. Teun's series is fantastic. My favorite is the last one because of the cold blue setting that I associate with industry. Just a feeling.

imo, an industrial landscape is that kind of landscape that is ugly, but becomes beautiful on a picture if it's well taken.

Might be a good definition Big_Apple. Industry smells, makes noise, pollutes, but is the basis of our society. And - at least in holland - the industry takes their responsibility to improve the bad things.

This is also the Maasvlakte, and if I had looked back, I could see all the industries. Such a pity that Holland is so small

Another night industrial pic. Made it under not so good weather conditions. There was to much wind. Or should it be smaller ?

Teun and I had a great day. Due to the usual, a few delayed images of my series from the same shoot as Teun mentioned in the original post. Thanks for the opportunity, Teun! I'll be in touch....;)
More to come in a few days....
Cheers,
