Does anyone still take photos and submit them online with classic cameras? ie, long before SLRs and so on (not an expert on camera history) but pre 1900s cameras and so?

Don't think so Evan if there is anybody on woophy who works with that kind of old camera's.
But I know there are a few members who take analogue pictures and scan the negatives for use on the internet or on woophy. Look for example at this pictures
by 36clicks
and try "scan from negative" in the search tab......

Now and then I still wipe of the dust from my old Nikkormat analogue camera that I bought around 1968 and theat still functions quite well.

@pansa Can you post some stuff from it? I'd like to see the image quality - I'm sure for some photo's it'd turn out really nicely :)

It's a bit similar to the differences between vinyl and digital music, some prefer the 'reality' of vinyl as a more rounded , less 'perfect' sound, others the clarity of digital. I have a massive archive of negs and slides, both black and white and colour, and often the film adds a warmth that is lacking in the clinical perfection of digital. My oldest ones were shot on a Leica, a Hasselblad, and even a few on a polished wooden, studio plate camera! I still use a Canon (film) SLR as well as a digital.

I have many B+W negatives taken in the 70's & 80's when I used to do my own printing and developing. I have scanned many of these now and some are on this site. It's nice coming across old pictures and remembering taking them (even 30 years ago). At least the digital age has removed the chemicals and occasional spillages that almost caused World War 3 in the house!!.

Aaahh fixer! And the joy of seeing the picture slowly emerge in the red light, and get darker and darker and darker and, damn, overexposure. Get another sheet out ... :-)
Strange days, emerging blinking into the light of reality after a developing session.

Great old pics. I've got a lot of 35 mm transparencys that I need to scan. Are there any suggestions on things I should be looking for in a scanner?

You can't go wrong with a Canon Canoscan 4400F, it has a slide/negative holder housed in the lid and it puts up a film strip with each shot outlined when you preview, so you can reject or adjust each individually. It scans up 20 2400dpi and all results have been excellent. The price is incredibly low too, £79 from Canon, although there are cheaper deals around - £59.17 on Amazon. http://www.amazon.co.uk/CanoScan-4400F-Scan-Quality-Versatility/dp/B00 0IFRSSY
It can also scan thick items like books, as the lid articulates [that's what a Z lid is!]
It has
* 4800 x 9600dpi, 48 bit colour depth
* FAU - 6 x 35mm film strip and 4 x 35mm slides
* Super-fast scan engine
* QARE Level 3 dust/scratch removal from photos
* Comprehensive software package
* USB 2.0 Hi-Speed
* 7 EZ buttons
* Fast Multi-photo mode
* Advanced Z-lid
I have one and am constantly impressed whenever I use it. And no, I have no connection with Canon!

Oh and it's compatible with Macs as well. It's 4800dpi of course, not 2400, my mistake.
