I saw a post by someone today that suggested that photography was not just a hobby as mine, but perhaps more involving, maybe up to or beyond a career.

I'm just wondering, what do you do for a living, and where does photography fit in?

I'm a biology undergraduate (not plant biology as you can tell from my photo descriptions), and photography is a hobby, although in a sense I am professional now, since I was asked to take a photo, tweak it a bit, and got paid - by my parents, but hey). I just see something I like or might turn out well, and photo it as best as I can.

Thanks

Interesting topic!

I also am not a pro and photography is not my job (even if a few days ago I saw a V.I.P. and could have taken a picture of him and sold it to some magazine :)))) )
I am a highschool student that happensa to love photography and travelling. I probably get the passion from my father who liked it a lot and even frmo my more general and philosophycal love for truth and the documenting of truth ( I don't know very well how to explain it). Anyhow, this is mainly the reason why I am here :)

yes it is a interesting topic!

i used to be a florist, with my own flowershop (what a surprise with all my flowerpictures....) did not work out financially. so i'm working now parttime in a gardencenter of a big chain. and i'm working as a usherette in a movie theatre in the evenings and weekends
parttime is to less for living but it gives me the time for taking pictures. i was lucky to be paid for my pictures now and then. and i hope it turns out to be more... :-)

I haven't got payment for my pxs although some of them are used in brochures, websites and magazines. I don't feel myself in the position (yet) to get paid for it but that's maybe wrong. In the meanwhile I enjoy photographing as an amateur.

For years ago I had the ambition to earn my daily bread with photography, actually I did for some time.........but very soon I discovered there were about 60.000 guys like me who also wanted that.

Like football, there are so many players but just a few are that good that they have a good job at it.

At that time I got married and there had to be bread on the shelves, so I took a regular job.

But photography has never been out of my mind. Nowadays sometimes I got paid for pictures. And whats more important at it, get well paid, because otherwise you/me will spoil the market for the pro's. And thats the last thing I want to do.

Oh, ok - but I think it misses out how the photography fits in with careers and so...

Hi there,

You can read it in the mentionned topic by Coutinho. I'm working in a "music-school".

Photography... ? Simple,... it's my hobby !

I am a Firefighter/EMT at an airport. I am also a Mom, with both children in thier 20's that are living in different states. (Pun intended). My favorite captures are candid, of children and Critters. I love nature. I would like to venture into B&W, especially of the elderly.

Hey Evanickelbridger, how nice.

I am a biology undergraduate as well. That's probably also why I love nature photography (although I haven't got the gear and time to do a lot of nature photographing myself). I could look at the pictures of, for example, the pro's Frans Lanting or Tim Laman over and over again. I hope that later, when I get a biology linked job, I get good opportunities to go out and try frame nature myself more often.

Timon

I am a student in Political sciences in Brussels and in my spare time I go into the city with my camera. I have a degree as a teacher in Geography, English and History as well and because of that first one (Geography) I love landscapes and cityscapes. But photography is and remains a modest hobby. I guess it's in the family because my father used to have this hobby as well when he had my age.
