How much text can one get away with before detracting from the image.
Is there a formula?
Is this applicable to comedic and romantic images only?

Scott. Good question ! I don't think that there is a " formula " but, in general, I try to keep the captions to my pictures -

a. As brief as possible. In part, this is because of an awareness that many Woophy members do not have English as their first language : and

b. Informative ( giving those who view them facts about where the picture was taken, historical background, etc. ) or - sometimes, when I think it is appropriate - humourous. In my own case, this latter is the exception rather than the rule !

Hope you find this helpful.

Regards

Geoff. ( Geoffrey McElwaine )

I like when a member writes some lines to let us know something of the story "behind" the pic.
One of the texts I like most is from this pic by Bernadette. Have a look...

I myself sometimes add a few lines to give further informations about the place in the picture. I wonder if anybody finds it disturbing.

TBM - I think your comments are a good idea - they are interesting and a suitable length.
