Hello to everybody...

I've been out now a few times, and i'm trying to learn landscape photography, and i'm waiting for a wide angle lens and some lee filters, but i cant stand still at home waiting, so i'm trying to shoot with several exposures and then processe them in photomatix and or photoshop and here are some results

454234

Just one exposure, processed in photoshop

455180

Just one exposure, processed in photoshop

455267

Just one exposure, processed in photoshop

457625

Just one exposure, processed in photoshop

466775

Three exposures processed in photomatix and then photoshop

467639

Three exposures processed in photomatix and then photoshop (this one i couldn't get rid of the HDR effect that i quite dislike)

So tell me what you think about them, and please either like it or not tell me why!!!!

Thank You

Sergio Leitao

Well...if this is just 'trying' we can only look forward with exitement to what's comming up .
I like them all, the natural 'flavour' of no 1 & 3 with a surreal light and especially no 5 & 6 with the spooky light effect on the water. Some might say that this is too much post manipulating (blabla) but to me this is turning pictures into pieces of art.
I prefer the black frames btw.

Congrats and have fun with your new lens soon

Dear Sergio,
I'm also in a very similar situation! I am about to buy a very wide angle lens, (10-17mm fish eye) and I have been using cokin filters for about 2 months now. I see from your gorgeous photographs that the only thing that you are actually missing is a good Nd grad filter, this allows you to shoot 1 or 2 or 3 stops more because it darkens the bright sky.
I have recently bought 2 of these, both hard grads, one .6 and one .8 which means 2 stops and 3 stops. They are brilliant. I have to say that other than good lenses and a good camera, these little pieces of glass help soo much raising the level of the composition. Only the fact that you have to stop and think of how to compose the picture whilst using the filter over the horizon completely changes the approach and allows to avoid the (for me rather boring) HDr post-processing, with amazing results to start with. Just one thing, if you buy square filters, don't bother buying the expensive holder - I use bluetac and stick the filter on the rim of the lens directly - it works perfectly and its virtually free!

I would only need some coast and see now, but I'm too busy to drive to the seaside...so I stick with rather boring british countryside for now!
As I told you many times already, your photographs are fantastic, I absolutely love the way you compose them (seeing that I'm not the only one trying to follow some 'rules' is an incredible relief!!!) and the colours and exposures are perfect. To tell you the truth about the HDR images - even if very good, I can't see the necessity of using such post production methods on such stunning images. The coast line, and long exposures on the sea and rocks are an incredible view that IMO doesn't need to be implemented by Hdr technique.
If you actually have a problem with overexposure of the sky, I would be happy to send you a detailed photoshop guide on how to apply ND filters in post production. Its quite simple even if a little long. Please email me if you want some tips on that.

You photos are truly amazing. Keep up the amazing work, and good luck with the new lenses and filters. Please contact me if you want to chat about any of this!

Hugs,

Nathan

@Sergio: In my opinion the result of your work is very good. Seaside pictures are often, very often, rather boring. You brought another dimension to it. My favorites are the first and the third one.
Post like these are for me the most interesting, talking about technical subjects, experiments to improve pictures. I hope more people will show us what they have done with their pictures tand how, to get certain results.
@Nathann : beeing boring places is a chalange :-) So far you managed to capture them very well in your own style.

Recently i have been is torment about going over board in gimp but now i realise that its just a processing technique and i love the effects but im really going towards black and white and manipulating them to look oldish . I look at you seascapes and think brilliant so please keep up the very good artistic work

Thank You everybody for your nice comments here in forum and on the pics.

@Bluesbuster, although i'm getting somewhat pleased with my developments, i am still just "trying" :-)

And now the last photo of this place, i'm posting the original RAW file and The processed one

468037
468039

Processed only on photoshop with curves adjustment layers, sharpening and dust spots cleaning.

Thanks everyone again

Sergio, if this is just a trying... well! i'm very curious about when you are done with it ;-)
they are all very beautyful
it is interesting how does the original picture looks like and how much you did the postwork on them. if i look at the two last pictures.. wow!

i always make some postwork on mine, but never as 'much' as you. i had always the impression it would not look real. but your still look real enought though
i just got yesterday my new neutralfilter (have no idea if this is the right word in english) and today i wanna go to the rivershore to try it out. hope it stops winding that much.... but it will be just a try out as well...

greetings
Bunny

Sergio, thia is a good example of what you are doing with your pictures. Showing us the oriiginal helps a lot. I'm sure this can lead to nice discussions about processing pictures.

Here's two more comparisons, this one were shot on the same day but it was almost night, this shot has an exposure of 150 secs and it was treated in photoshop with curves, contrast noise redution and desaturation of some colours,

again hope you like it...

processed
469500

raw file

almost forgot... i went out again today, i'll be posting them soon

thank you

You've created an almost spooky atmosphere. The picture reminds me of old triller movies from the 50-'s. The b&w is verygood and the rocks gained a lot contrast.
I must say that the object, sea and rockformations, lends itself very well for this kind of processing.
