Dear Woophy members,
In the last couple of days I had quite a bit of time in my hands, so I decided to go out and try to photograph the essence of the holidays shoppers!
The days before chrismas are incredibly lively on the high street, there are thousends of people of all kinds on the street, and this allows for an incredible variety of candid shots, sometimes with a bit of suttle irony, or compositional thoughtfulness!
I want to share some of mine with you all, wishing you happy holidays, and a happy new year. I really hope that you also are spending this holiday time taking photos of people (rather than the beautiful nature we've seen in other threads), and share them with me in this thread!
Hugs to all, happy 2008,
Nathan
I decided to "restrict" my photographic eye to a 50mm lens, just because sometimes its good to go back to the basics!

well nathan,
i hate shopping. but this was a scene i've caught nine days ago. living snowman and snowwoman at a shopping-centre; not many shoppers, but these children were having fun.
instead of shopping i went out for a walk today; with a good friend of mine. a beautiful day for a picnic.

I guess we all have our own ideas of what constitutes a holiday but for me it would never include shopping.

Dear all,
You have probably misunderstood the point of the thread...
I don't like shopping either, not only, but not celebrating chrismas, I have no reason to go out and shop, therefore, I have taken photographs of the subject... :D
Bruha, unfortunately, as you surely understand, chrismas has in the years lost much of its religious importance, the nativity of Jesus is widely forgotten, and the festival has become a self feeding business system. Unfortunatly, (And I completely disagree with this) chrismas is today mostly about shopping, so if it doesn't constitute integral part of the holiday, I wish to see other essential aspects of our society.
My photographs should (in my mind) show a sarcastic and ironic view of the holidays, not its real essence.
I hope this clarifies my intentions, whilst noticing that woophy members are not very active during the holidays, I hope many more will add their photographs, and share them with the community!
Hugs to all,
Nathan

Hi Nathan,
what do you think about this? I spotted it in a luxurious clothing store here in Genoa.
I do not know what they had in mind with this shop-window:
1) maybe they wanted to be very ironic about the Real Meaning of Xmas in an affluent world;
2) maybe they had in mind Baudelaire's poem:
"La très-chère était nue, et, connaissant mon cœur,
"Elle n'avait gardé que ses bijoux sonores,
"Dont le riche attirail lui donnait l'air vainqueur
"Qu'ont dans leurs jours heureux les esclaves des Mores.
3) or maybe they had just sold the last dress...

very nice TBM; your photo reminds me of something I've seen two weeks ago in the city-center of Den Bosch (Netherlands):
(the erotisation of Christmas)
