Just to be clear :
I support 100% Ortho 158 and I have helped him when I could in his struggle against the cheaters. I have a lot of respect for his work and for his collection.
And I have a lof of affection for John Melskens, a deep admiration for his work.

Thank you from me, too, Ortho. That's the second instance, in recent weeks, of people thinking they can get away cheating with if only they shout loudly enough. It's good to have someone like you with the knowledge, and courage, to expose them.
Regards

Thanks Ortho for being our spider in the web. Wonder how you do this. Maybe you can share your technique with us so that more people of the Woophy gang can detect cheaters. And I aline with Paulo about the big hug for John, Aline and Ortho.

@Pansa
You can read the hidden information in any JPG, BMP, TIF, and others image files with a good EXIF READER.

Thanks to all of you!!! But I must say that I appreciate much more sessions with fellow Woophians, like the one we had in Gent last week, than spending my time chasing pics uploaded by crooked 'members'.

I can image that. The strength of Woophy is the community. You have articulated that very good.

I can imagine that you like the woophy sessions far more Ortho, but still , you're doing a great job hunting those cheaters, but it will be good if more of us do the same, because you're getting to many abuses from those people imho.

@P ansa :
Yes, JPG pictures contain not only the picture itself, but also the EXIF data :
They indicates the camera model, the shutter, aperture, date and time etc, all information automatically given by the numeric cameras.
So, the EXIF data of the pictures sent to Woophy can be read by Joris. It can be an indication of the author (100 pictures made by 100 different cameras is not really credible ?).
But Woophy doesn't display the EXIF data - as some other sites do -
So we have no more indication about the origin of the pictures than what can say the sender.
Several members proposed Woophy to display the EXIF data when they are avalaible, and I think it could be a very good enhancement...
... mainly because the technical data are sometimes very interesting for amateur photographers trying to learn more about photography.

dear All,
I haven't participated in this until now, even if I carefully read every single conversation in the last 2/3 days...
I have to say that Ortho's work is really admirable, and by being in the community for a few months now, I really understand the goods of its little "gang" as its being called. Its simply a group of honest people that appreciate photography and try and enjoy their time on this site.
I think that its also normal that other people become jealous of this "gang" and for one reason or another, act as idiots and provoke anger and upset reactions in the members that would only want to enjoy it...
I believe that this site is a simple example of a normal society, where there are all types of behaviours, and all types of reactions to those behaviours. Woophy is not a perfect world, and I think we should all learn to accept this. Woophy, as wonderful as it is, has got its problems, and its cheaters and vicious downraters, and jealousies, and swearing.
Whilst we should all follow Ortho's example and fight against bad behaviours, i think we should also learn how to not get upset about these situations, and try and remain calm. Talking about cheaters or stolen pictures is (as somebody already said in another thread) only a contribution to those idiots. They (the idiots) only want the honest and good members to get upset and talk about them.
The thread about the guy stealing pictures and posting them on flickr was a simple example of this : as soon as somebody talked about him here on woophy, he started taking suggestions and selling pictures, and putting them on items for sale... he was clearly reading all woophy member's posts, and in his idiocy, feeding on those upset comments and complaining words.
I think that from now on, if situations like this come up again, we should report them - either here to JOris, or on other websites if necessary, and thats it. We don't need to all chip in and discuss our opinions on one thing or the other - If we only present FACTs, there is no need for opinions. Ortho has given a demonstration of this - he reported the abuse and didn't write any more - it is all those who "believe" or "not believe" the accusations that feeded the idiots -
Ortho is a responsible member of this community, we all know this. We should all try and be responsible in the same way, and not talk just to air our big mouths.
Aline and John (who I saw in the Gent photos and would love to see again here on woophy_) I hope you decide to restart posting your photos here as soon as possible - I also found a remedy to downraters: downrate your pictures yourself, so that they won't bother doing it.... (i've done it - it makes you feel amazing if somebody else tries to screw with you !!!!! )
Hugs to all,
Nathan

Currently any image uploaded to Woophy is wiped of it's metadata and assigned a new URL name. I'm sure that this is probably done in the name of saving space on the servers.
I discovered this by downloading my images and then a few others here on Woophy and then attempted to read the exif data and could not. Copyright and contact info that I had specifically added during my workflow was no longer part of the image nor was any of the standard info recorded by the camera.
Metadata is not something that everyone pays much attention to but it is important in many respects. For me it is one more step I can take to prevent my image from becoming an orphaned work. If my contact info and authorship are removed from the image, as Woophy currently does, any party interested in using my image (or any other posted here) could make the claim that there was no author listed in the image and no way to contact an owner.
In this same light, readable metadata could also easily clear up the problems experienced here on Woophy when people post images that do not belong to them.
I have been told that exif data will be a part of Woophy 2.0 and I certainly hope that it will include copyright and contact info added by the author.
For more on metadata I am including this address to an article written by Ethan G. Salwen over at ASMP's site.

Best wishes to all
