i thought the whole idea of this forum was to ask for critique and after over 100 views only one person posted a response. how do i need to rephrase the request to achieve better results?

Hi Oso
You'r right. Sorry that I missed your first request. Regarding your portrait 446908 the following:
- It's an interesting composition. Double portraits are rare and this is a good one because it's compo is good and the px radiates a good atmosphere.
- The technical quality, however, is horrible. It's unsharp almost everywhere and IMO the unsharpness is not functional. Furthermore, it is full of dust (?) particles. The remark of Geoffrey about the light I share.
Cheers
Pansa

Oso. You have identified one of Woophy's main problems : how does a member, and particularly a new member, ensure that his portfolio attracts attention ? The number of members and uploaded pictures grows every day. Few of us have time to look properly at more than a random sample of the 500 + pictures being uploaded. Most, I suspect, are like myself in choosing those which, as I put it, " startle my eye ". Even that, by its nature, is " hit-and-miss ". The route you have chosen ( opening a Forum topic ) is certainly one way, but not really practical. If every member were to follow suit, the Forums would rapidly become unmanageable. In short, there is no simple solution. May I suggest that you -
a. Keep on taking pictures and enjoy doing so.
b. Upload those you like best onto Woophy.
c. Play as full a part as you can in looking at others' portfolios, and in Forum discussions
and you should, hopefully, start to attract other members to look at your work.
Above all : Don't give up ! All of us starting out in Woophy have faced the same problem, and most have hung around long enough to become known to our fellow members.

The focus in portrait photos is crucial and most important when it include 2 persons. They are in different plans and your option was to put the focus on the man ... but that focus point was in his nose and not in his eyes. I don't know what was your goal doing that. Using a high focal aperture the girl was out of focus. There are people that prefer the contrary (the focus on the girl) and others that want the focus on the couple using a closed focal aperture which improve the depth of field.
I think the picture has good framing and was taken from an interesting low angle, but one thing that disturb me is the fact that they are looking for different directions puting our attention by switching from one to the other. And the light above the girl head is very strong forcing us to imediately look for that out of detail zone.
The image quality can be improved removing the great amount of scratches and small spots with, for example, photoshop.
One more thing, this is not the best place (site) to put portrait photos and mainly expecting to have advices about it.

well the forum is here for any advice as you can see there are a wide range of questions people ask on here. you get alot of views but must understand that probably alot of people havent a clue on how to respond or they havent much to say on the matter or they are just browsing these endless forums.
i can see how frustrating this is for people but stick with them as out of all the views the 3 or 4 comments are very informative.
regards jonny

Oso. Hi. - again ! I'm no expert, but my impression is that this Forum is to enable Woophy members to ask " How do I ... ? " questions, while the Comments box beside each picture in your portfolio is where other members can - if they wish - place their views / critiques, etc. The problem I identified, above - sheer volume of uploaded pictures - inhibits this from working as well as it should, and as you would clearly like it to.
Hope this helps. Now I'll shut up !
