Hi. folks
I wonder whether any other Woophy members have uploaded a picture they really liked, and were disappointed that no-one commented on, or rated, it ? This is my example -
Although it has been seen by 200+ members, none has commented on, or rated, it. And yet, I think it's one of my better landscapes !
What do others think ?
Regards
Geoff.

Thanks, drora. Looking again at my earlier message, I realise that my meaning may not have been clear. What I had in mind was a Forum topic where Woophy members could post a picture from their portfolio of which they were particularly fond, but which had attracted a disappointing response from other members. This could provide an opportunity for " neglected treasures " to have some time in the spotlight and, while there, hopefully attract renewed attention.
Regardfs
Geoff.

I don't know whether this is a "treasure", but it attracted 0 comments and 0 ratings. It's IMO a nice Dutch river landscape and part of my series "Skies over Holland".

Hi Geoffrey,
I know what you are meaning. I also have a few of those pictures in my portfolio.
I like your pic very much but I didn't see this pic before until now.
And the reason I didn't see this pic before is the lack of time I can spent on Woophy these days.
That's the main reason I opened the topic "your best pic of the month ...... "
I miss a lot of very nice pictures past 2 months because I have less time to spent on Woophy these days.
But I think the main reason is that there are to many pics uploaded a day and when I spent some time on Woophy I don't know where to start. I can't see all pics.
Mostly I search by date and view or ratings and view the most beautiful pics.
Here is a example of one of mine:
With kind regards,
Oscar

@ Oscar
Have the same problem. Not only lack of time but also the tsunami of pxs that is uploaded every day. BTW I also missed your church px which I like very much because of the light, the straight solid compo and the nice perspective. Glad that you didn't correct the perspective.

I'm sorry but I don't speak english very well but I want to take part of the conversation! I'm already sorry about the bad spelling or other fault...
Yes Pansa I think that we can't see all the news pix there are every day. And like the most other member (I supose) I'm not often on the web and I see only the last pix were add or in the forum! I try to search with key word but I miss lot of beatiful pix...
What do you think about this mine?
I hope you understand me.

Geoff, once again, you get right to the heart of one of woophy major failiings. It is a subject that I have found mystifying, and of course, irritating. I can only offer one possible explanatory factor - and it is not language. It is to do with timing, somehow. The timing of a post can seem to have an effect, although not in thelong run. I have pictures that show 3 zillion visits and 3 comments. i can't understand that. Then, I have other photos that I think are mildly unusual, or diverting, that have attracted the most comments and scores. Scores interwest me less & less, but for heaven's sake, say something!
Anyway, as part of my general demise in al departments, I too am not posting or commenting hardly at all anymore.
I see woophy as resembling the publication of a continuous online newspaper. It is so fast, so diverse, so labirrynthine, with a layout that hardly invites comments more than a few mo0nosyllabic words that I am starting to question its value. Pictures are fresh one moment, then disappear. it is all hit-&-miss and purely fortuitous.
Yes, I am questioning i s value & purpose.
And more & more, i find the whole notion of rating on offer as absurd.
Voilá! That's my 2-pennyworth. I really don't mind stirring up things a bit, i am a natural anarchist. But I do like to be constructive, as I know you do too. i thinkit is a losing battle here, apart from a number of good, perceptive souls.
Well raised. Now go have a great holiday!

There are many photos that deserve the attention and the gratitute to the photographer
unfortunately it's known that many people are just too lazy to give some good words to the photographer if they liked what they seen.
By the way
Do you have a Landscape type of this photograph instead of a portrait ?

Yaniv Eliash. Thanks for your comment ! I do agree that some members may be " too lazy " to encourage a photographer whose work they liked ; a more important reason, however, may be the ever-increasing number of uploaded pictures. Most members simply do not have enough time to look at more than a few pictures each time they visit the Woophy site. I, therefore, opened this topic to give members an opportunity to highlight pictures from their portfolios which they considered worthy of greater appreciation.
Sorry, I do not have a landscape version of my Madeira picture.
Regards.
Geoff.

I think it is more to do with the fact that most members dont like to be unkind. So they only rate good photos. We see very few 1 2 3s most members would rather not rate than give a low rating. Which is why the rating system is a joke.Geoffrey your photo may be very nice ,(and we all think our own photos are) but it dont jump out and grab me by the balls. but who am I to say I only take snap shots not photos.

dingo. A fair point ! On the other hand, and although it may be a cop-out, I ignore the majority of what I consider to be technically deficient pictures ( under-exposed, not sharp, unimaginative composure, etc., etc. ). By doing so ( and my reason is lack of time : I cannot afford ( nor will my wife allow me ) to spend more than half an hour each day on Woophy ), I avoid having to decide how to rate, never mind comment on, them. The exceptions are those few which catch my imagination, or engage my mind.
Regards
Geoff.
P.S. Your comment about my picture is completely understandable. As you suggest, in my biased opinion, it is quite a " nice landscape ", but nothing more.

I have a couple of sunset pictures that have received many wonderful comments, but I thought this poor neglected one was the best, but no comments or ratings! As an amateur I would love to see more comments on my photos, good or bad, so that I can learn more about what I am doing right/wrong, and can improve and grow in my photography. I think we could easily do without the rating system if there were more constructive comments from photographers that are more advanced than the majority. There really is nothing I can learn from "great" and "nice photo" and "beautiful". I know there are a lot of things I need to learn, but it's hard to know what those things are without a little help from those that do know.
Thank you for your time!
