"shijia" has asked for more photos of the Mangaweka Gorge in NZ's North Island.
Renowned for its white limestone cliffs the gorge takes both State highway 1 and the main North Island train line from the coastal Manawatu Plains up to the central high volcanic plateau. The area hosts a range of outdoor pursuits including bungy jumping, snow sports, mountain activities, hunting etc.
Most of these photos were taken from the "Overlander" tourist train which travels daily each way between Auckland & Wellington. To complete the 1920's experience shortly the train will be pulled over some stages by steam engines
The train line travels over some huge rail viaducts, see the shadow in the photo above
