Hi all,
I'm making pics for a photo-contest, and trying some new things out for this.
Could you be so kind to be as critical as you want about those pics,
and also advise me about picking the coloured version or the b&w,
or if I should delete them both asap ;-))))
your help is much appreciated,
W.Z.

Well, i looked at both sometimes and IMO is the coloured one the best. The B/W have to less emotion in it, the leave in the coloured one is the first thing I see, in the B/W it's not

I also prefer the colored one, espetially for one reason: in this particular pic I like most the black shaddow on the reddish sand than on the neutral one of the second. Another important detail that is lodt in the second one is the green leaf in all those red-brown colours.

I agree with Dieuwertje. Looking at the B&W at first I see the clear zone near the center of the picture. For the coloured one, my attention is attracted by the leaves and the branches. I prefer the coloured one but I am wandering: what does this picture mean?

@christian,
the pictures mean as much as a grain of sand does in the sahara.
What I was looking for is feedback on the composition, the tonal range,
shadows and highlights, reflections in the sand, contrast and ofcourse feelings.
but mostly on the compo.
The pic is just an nothing meaning - please rate 0.1 test.
tnx

the compo is oke with me, I like specially the 'lineplay' in it. The pictures, both that is, gives me a feeling of desolation, loneliness....and hope in the pic with the green leave.In the coloured one the shadows come better to there right, but what frustrates me is the bright spot in both pics........don't see why. IMHO you could better try to get it even with the other colours, which are good, as well in the B&W as in the coloured one......Both pictures are nice grainy which I like, not by processing the pics but through the sand....its rather if you liked to pull us a leg, if you know what I mean..;-)
I think if you clear the bright spot out, especially in the B&W, you've got good pictures.
And the darkening in the corners makes the pics smaller than they appear.

The leaf almost disappears in the black and white, thats bad for the balance of the shot. I think you should favour the greens (possibly a greenish yellow) to bring out the leaf.
The middle of the black and white version seems over exposed, or at least it's too bright for the edges. This might get worse if you try to bring out the leaf. One way to compensate is using a brighter version of the shot, blended through a gradient mask with the original black and white.
Does that make sense at all?

@all
thanks for your feedback,
it's been most hellpful.
I've decided to let this subject go and get back to it when I've got some more experience.
So I'll change my battleground ;-)
Thanks again
