Most of us sometimes are using frames, to make our photo's special.
Now it happen that there are a lot of different opinions about the colours of the frames and the dimension.
The male members mostly prefer black, big frames and the woman liked more the coloured ones is my opportunity.
This is one of mine pict. What is your opinion?

IMO this frame is a bit distracting from the px. The px itself is very subtle and I don't like the heavy blue frame here. Maybe if you make the blue the same width as the white it might work better.

Some members like Bunny use the frame as a kind of "trade mark" by using one and the same frame for all pxs. In Bunny's pxs it works out very well.

greetings

Pansa

I agree with pansa, the frame is a bit distracting because of the very soft colour of the sky.
Personally I used frames in one pic only but I am thinking of using it more and more: For now I will use it only for black and white pics because that is the only kind of pic where I think I can obtain a good result (I yet am not capable of doing it for coloured pics with a good result).

I think it is all a matter of taste. People do like frames or they do not. But the people who do like frames have there own taste in frames.
So it is unpossible to make a good frame that all members like.
But it is interesting what others like and don't like. Even the differents to women and man is interesting.

I said the frame of this pic is not beautiful. Christian C told he agree with me about the frame. But I sure think there wil be members that like this frame.
The reason that I told you I didn't like the frame was that I had choosen a more silent frame myself.
Personally I tried with my own pics several frames. The one I think the most users will like I choose. In that case I hope I made a good choise by using this frame. I think using a more solid frame most people like is the best solution for choosing a frame.

Also I like the personal frames what Pansa named about Bunny.
If you look to the pics of John Melskens you can see a very simple but nice frame that perfectly fits his Amsterdam pictures.

So it is all personal in my opinion.

Greetings Oscar

I found out there's loads of donts and only a few dos when it comes to creating
frames.

As put earlier in previous topics about frames by De Stilte: KISS

I like dark tones, like blacks, or maybe greys depending on the photo. Perhaps a woody style very infrequently for nature photos (from photoshop).

The blue frame is too distracting, for this I'd think a thin black frame would be good.

In my humble opinion I think that the frame is there to frame, and not to become part of the image, but either to finish it off, or make it more visible.

Hope it goes well,
E

I agree with Evan... The blue frame is overpowering the delicate image. Try a very thin black border around the image, surrounded by a narrow white or very lilght blue frame. (Perhaps the same blue as the lower right corner of the background.)

Paulo Calafate makes great use of the border/frame contrast in many of his works:
his photos have a geat deal of contrast and saturation.

Looks very good! I wouldn't have thought of the white border and black inside - but looks VERY good - very delicate and nicely matches the black stem and the white flowers :)

The white frame with it's black line looks really good. Delicate indeed.

I can never decide which frame looks best around a picture, so I always submit mine without frames. But I did some experiments with Out of Bounds, which I found on atncentral.com . You can make really weird frames with it.

Here's an example

when people use them with humor I like these goofy frames such as Ruud shows . Otherwise I think they are too much!

I like that 3-D fish, but I think my favorite use of this sort of framing is by Sfonsa:

I laugh out loud every time I see this picture!

@Dieuwertje: your topic has forced me back into a habit of overdoing frames.
and I like the second frame a lot better than the first one. well done.

hello...

in my opinion sometimes a frame changes the caracter of a pic..
for example, a not very interesting pic calls the attention stronger. And a really great pic doesn't need a frame. Its just perfect as it is. So I usually try to make pics that don't need a frame... but this is not easy of course.
I use analoge camera; and revealing a negative, by printing you can print it with a black frame if you don't cut the pic: this is a sign that the size of the foto is the original, without cutting any part... like a quality - question.

but if frame is added by fotoshop for example; I prefer them in case of the b&w fotography. And the style, size, etc. depends on what the pic requires. :-)
