I keep it short, but placing a photo on woophy from somebody else is foolish, but placing a photo with the 'real' photographers name is simply stupid!.
So I (and probably a lot of other members) would ask the woophy staff to take action for this copyright violation.

question to graaf: did you report it with the abuse button? it is there for it!
i just left a comment about the terms of use nr 5: Upload only your own pictures or pictures you own the copyright of. on each of those two pictures above.. hopely the members will get the message and clear it up them self. if not: then we must raport it with the abuse button....
it is sad that it happends all the time!

@bunny: In "my case" I used the button, but as I mentioned before in the topic http://www.woophy.com/forum/index.php?action=vthread&forum=4&topic=216 6 it didn't show any effect....

ok, this is good Klaus. i know that some members do not like to use the button. thats why i mentioned it.
it needs mostly a day or two until joris can react. he has to get sure first that there is really a copyright issue. hope you understand what i mean.
thanks

ok, i read the topic, and it is weird that nothing happends even after 3 weeks...
i used it and it worked the next day. (and this has nothing to do with my moderator status...)
well lets hope it will work in the future. thanks Klaus for your help! we still need it

I have a suggestion:

We should make on the forum a special section, maby in the announcement section where someone explains how to use the "abuse" button, I mean by this how to judge if a pic is not by the member and stuff like this, I say this because even I am not very keen on this subject, on how to use the abuse button.

Don't try to visit the web site that is mentioned in the profile of ASIIMWE JOB (the guy that posted a screensaver picture as his own). It will try to install software on your computer. My anti-virus software identified it as a virus and stopped it being installed.

To all,

I got many complains and sometimes I react immediately and sometimes I wait

In the case of Omid I deleted the account (after giving him some time to improve his behaviour)

I think it is good that people who maliciously upload other peoples pictures are banned from the site.

But please be also aware that a lot of members who hear about Woophy first test it with some stupid pictures like a windows desktop or a 'stolen' picture. It is very well possible that people first hear about Woophy at their work (as an example) and try the site to see how it works and later when they are at home and have access to their own photos start to participate seriously.

My policy is like this

1. If somebody has a lot of high quality pictures stolen from various sites (+10) I delete the account right away
2. If a new member uploads a windows desktop, or other clipart image I hope the Woophy community points out that this is not right (in a friendly way). After a while if nothing happens I delete the account.
3. If I get complains from the owner of the copyright (photographer) I immediately delete the account.

Some people think this policy is too tolerant. But I think it is commonplace on the internet that there is copyright violation see for example Youtube. It is something which happens inevitably when you share, always people will make misuse of that.

What we at Woophy can do to minimize this is do what you do, report it and tell the member in question about the terms of use.

Please also keep in the back of your mind the Sath / Thomas affaire where somebody accused the rightful owner of copyright violation because he used two different aliases on different sites.

Best regards

Joris

Just found out that almost all these pictures come from one and the same frustrated user

I think it's a good policy joris. Giving a second chance in cases where the user might not know how woophy works seems pretty fair to me.

@joris: you're definitely right with your policy. But actually I didn't intend or request the deletion of the full acount. It was just disturbing me, when I've to see a South Seas Island somewhere in an african mountain range on the woophy map (like there was another picture). Also the mentioned picture could never been taken at the indicated spot. On top they were screensaver. But on the other hand there were other pictures from the user, which gave a a little insight on people living in Uganda, which I miss now :(
