Hi Dingo,
Allthough I have about 500 pictures posted from all around the world, more than 200 of them are taken in my village (Pazmandfalu, Hungary) this is only a very small spot on the map (we have less than 900 inhabitants). The majority of these 200 pictures were taken 'on my own territory', my garden :>)
My best rated pictures are the "local discoveries"

Well, if you take a look at the woophy-map and zoom in to the centre of the Netherlands, you will find a red spot called 'Zoelmond'. From the number of pictures, it might look like a very big city, but I am sure 99% of the Dutch doesn't even know it exists. It is a village with about 550 people, the village where I grew up. I live in Utrecht for my study now, but my parents still live in that village. A lot of my pictures are taken there. (By the way: I will also take a series of tourist-guide pictures of the beautiful city Utrecht if it stops raining if I have some leisure time --> taking pictures when it is raining is fun, but I already got a bit of a cold so...).
But I also make some long walks to take nice pictures in summer. Most of my mountain pictures are taken after some ours walking away from the roads, into the mountains...

Hi Dingo,

most of my pictures I've taken around my village. Everyday you can find something new, without going far away because of season, weather, light etc.
Others pictures are from visits to my family in the north of Germany or from Holiday.

Have a nice day

Hi

My pictures are mostly taken in around here where i life..
a lot are from Visp (where i life right know) or Brig (where i used to work). some are from Biel (where i grew up and my family still lifes).
the mountain pictures and the italien are all taken as a little trip from about 20-50 minutes by car from Visp away...
then i have lifed 9 years ago in San Francisco (for a year), and my US-pictures where made in days off and vacancion there.
only those from London and Egypt where truly tourists-travel-vacancion-pictures.

its interesting how far people travel to think about taking pictures.. I know a lot of people
they have a lot of fotos, but not a single one from where they life! ;-)

A lot of my pic's are taken in my neighbourhood...
And I had the same idea as Roderick, to make a serie of tourist-trips in and around amsterdam ... I would like to see some more pic's from other places like that! First I have to find the time and good weather :)
Have fun everybody!

with me i guess it is about half and half between home and vacation. since my camera is always with me on vacation i take alot of pics then. however, when i get out the camera at home i have a certain intention so the percentage of pictures i like is usually higher than on vacation. and i think photography is a great way to get to know ones own surroundings. curiosity is very important ;-)

For me I take photos whenever and wherever i have my camera with. But when we are making a trekking i have it always with. However while i'm still not fully adapted to the digital era i am holding back with taking pictures because the prices...
And on other vacations than trekking i've always my cam with me of course.

In another perspective, i'm go quite far to get the picture the way i want it. Meaning that I'm not ashamed to take certain poses, like lying on the ground, to get the right angle...
Or I am not afraid to take some (minor) risks. Like the pictures of the can on the frozen lake. The ice was rather thin, but i really wanted to get that can on my picture so i layed myself on the icy surface to fully spread my weight and then moved very slowly towards a satisfying picture-shooting spot...

Like many of you I always carry my camera with me, in my car, in my backpack or werether it happens to be. Sometimes I suddenly stop and go back to some place were I saw a nice light or an interesting detail. I believe sometimes people thinks I'm a bit mad but I don't care.
Indeed many of my photos are taken from around my house or in the little city I live in, still someone who doesn't know me thinks I'm a tourist there the first time with a camera.

I understand what many of you are saying ~ don't leave town till you've seen the country, Dingo! :) A lot of my photos are taken locally or just wherever I happen to be (because I also try to make sure I have my camera handy at all times)

I enjoyed Nivad's account of "how far to go to get a photo". My dad and I do stuff like that. My dad is hopeless with heights but we have a photo of him standing on the top of the pancake rocks (search New Zealand, pancake) in the South Island, leaning waaaayy over to get a vertical shot down to the surf crashing many many metres below. He was fine and stable until he handed his camera back to an assistant then started to tremble :)

What are some of your scary stories of getting the right shot?

Well, most of my photos are from several trips I've done.. some a few 100km, some a few 10'000km.. I'm not travelling because I like to photograph but just because I love beautiful landscapes.. and while I'm there I can make a shot anyway :)

I close to never go somewhere just to make a special shot but I think I have the eye to realize a good spot when I see one :)
