And here's another question....

As i mentioned several times before, I'm a complete noob to the subject, so please don't laugh:

I noticed that there are a lot of pics showing persons, and I think that's good because these are often the most beautiful and interesting shots (my personal taste).
But what about their personal rights, hmm it's hard to explain what I mean in English but I guess you know what I'm about to say.
I guess most people shown were not asked if they would like to have their face shown on the internet. Hm well, I wouldn't.... and I know I'd get the divorce on the day my husband would find his face on this site :D (a shame actually, for he's a cutie)

Please tell me about this problem, I would be happy to learn.

Thanks,
Marie

Hi Knipsmarie. On Google you will find your answer. Use the keyword 'portraitright' and there you find what you want to know.

Hm didn't really answer all my questions, as this is a dutch site isn't it? I know about portrait right in Germany and U.S., but what is it like in the Netherlands, might well be more liberate I would guess. Anybody know details?

But whatever way round, I really think it would go well with the woophy idea to at least mention portrait right in the ToU. I know whoophy claims not responsible for anything we do here, and I know it's technically impossible to check every single pic.
But just remembering users to respect other persons private rights would simply be a fine gesture, it would go well with the friendly and "one-world" tone of this site.

Especially with the running contest (which i really like a lot, please don't get me wrong) where members are directly asked to take shots of people around, a little reminder would be a good thing.

Really, I don't want to spoil the party, I know the "big freedom thing" is the salt in the soup of this site. But liberal and democratic people we are, that's exactly the point why we should respect private rights don't we?

Really hoping you nice people don't get me totally wrong,
Marie

@knipsmarie,

The problem with Carla's suggestion is that she wrote "portaitright" as one word, which is the common Dutch (and German) way to combine two nouns. But it is not the English way - so if you enter "portrait rights" (with a space in between and quote marks around it; the 's' at the end also seems to help) you will find more.
What I know from dicussions on other photographic forums is that generally it is not forbidden to publish pictures of people who find themselves in public spaces. However, in certain countries, for instance the USA, it is not allowed to publish photographs of 'minors' (children under a certain age) without permission from their parents.

interesting question.
I always ask kids permission, or their parents if the child is very young (like my nephew and nieces in some of mine.
Adults in a public place doing ordinary things . . . I understand it is not necessary to ask, but to be polite?
I also (try to) run a website for our scout troop, and have to be very careful for the safety side of things (lots of weird people out there) so if you are taking pictures of people to put on the internet, consider how they may feel about it.
I am also very careful not to identify the person, to maintain their privacy.
(I will search google too though, and see what is said)

How do you all feel about cameras on cellphones, in changing rooms?
ewwwww scary thought.
