SJS like I said:not everything in woophy is OK, and surely you can't have fun in abusing someone etc etc. If you're one of the members at woopy, that's taking care of the quality standard, it's OK with me, woophy needs members like you.
I would like to say, I'm not feeling being attacked by your response, I have great respect for your participation in this discussion. Let's all do our very best to improve woophy, the quality, the rating, the comments, and at last we'll all have a lot of fun!

I feel the urge to come back for a short moment. Especially for Trudy.
@ Trudy: It was never my intention to abuse you or anyone else and I hope I never did in the past. Unfortunately you misinterpreteted my remark and it di hurt you unnessecary. calling you Mother of Woophy was ment as an honourable mention, a big compliment. You wrote kind things as you do always in this forum, like a mother. Be proud of it!
@ Paolo: I also feel very sorry disturbing your night rest. It never was my intention. I cannot withdraw my words unfortunately . I have only one advise: don't visit this forum to frequent

Stew. Come on - Woophy is not that important in the great scheme of things ! As I made clear ( but not, apparently, clear enough ! ) above, I agree with Joop's idea : taking / showing pictures is - or should be - a " fun " activity. And, no, I do not apologise for using that word. I am sure that many Woophy members are concerned about / involved in matters of " serious " local / global importance ( politics / poverty relief / justice, etc., etc. ). For us - again, as I said above - photography gives us an opportunity to spend " selfish " time trying to show others scenery / people, etc. which we have found interesting. What's so wrong about that ?
The trouble with Woophy - if it is, indeed, " trouble " - is an unnecessary " competitive " element. It would be disingenuous of me to say that I am not happy that some of my pictures are rated 5 - but Woophy is not a Camera Club. Its sole aim was - and remains - to provide amateur ( for the most part ) photographers with a place where they can post pictures they have taken of the world they encounter. And, inevitably, the quality of those photographs will vary. In Camera Club circles this variation has resulted in competitions where members' pictures are compared, with a view to raising the standards of all participants. Why should this kind of ethos also apply in Woophy ? Do members upload their pictures to have them critically evaluated - or because they want to share their pleasure in the world they have tried to capture ?
To sum up ( and, again, as I have said on several previous occasions ! ), let us all remember that photography is FUN, and that Woophy should reflect that. It has been so disappointing to see a slow tide of nastiness creep into Woophy Forums. Rather than become exercised about Ratings, etc., can we not devote our energy / imagination to treating our fellow members with respect, and their views with toleration ( even [ especially ] when we disagree with them ! ).
Regards
Geoff. ( Geoffrey McElwaine )

Well IMO we are here to learn from eacht other too. So a bit more constructive critisism would be nice. IMO that's also what Aline expresses in her topic.

Of course Woophy wants to show the world, but a bit more quality is always welcomed.

@ ex lonesome runner
Thank you very much for your explanation. Thank you very much for the big compliment you gave me. I am sorry I understood it wrong. It has to do with my personal live, you could not know that. I am still very sorry you left woophy, I will miss your being there.
@ SJS and all others rthat worried about me: don't do because I can sleep very well, even when I think someone says somethinh not nice, I tell that and it is gone. But I like it very much you care for me.
I appriciate Aline starting the forum Pansa mentioned, because that is constructive and helping making Woophy even better.
So let us enjoy Woophy and share our hobby.

I can see that positive thinking has left woophy yet again oh please please please stop this !!!! I can see peoples frustrations and pet hates i have loads. joris please scrap the rating system these threads have poisoned woophy . We dont need ratings all it does is cause bad feeling
The contest and lots of other threads get neglected for bad ones and its getting tiresome.
Seriously now maybe Marcel and Joris can have a separate part of the site for these professionals we have.
I tell you its getting boring and i feel woophy is going to implode

Strange, I've been to busy last week to look at the forum, and when I do, its sad to see yet another negative topic. Is the summer this bad? Or are more and more people getting fustrated. I've always liked joning the contests and will continuing to do so. I probably never win a T-shirt (not my ultimate goall) or anything else, but I love to participate and get comments and like to see my skills evolve. This is my goall and all woophians help me to achieve this by leaving comments good or bad. So to everyone walking around with negative feelings, take a break and see how it goes after a few months, maybe you will get other insites.
Greetings Leon

My happiness = your frustration....always was, always will be.
Ratings...Icons...,if they make people leave the house we might be better off without them, I second Johnny in that, about the T-shirts...I agree with Paulo,

Hi,
As you know I'm not a common member and I don't get nominated for any t-shirts etc. and although I believe I could have gained further praise for my photos, I don't get angry about the fact; Just relax if no is interested in your photos they can do what they want, but still inside I think that I can take great pics and it doesn't matter if someone does not like mine, don't care and still believe in yourself! That's what counts in the end.

As a once simi-pro with a great camera that enevitably died (I killed it) & moved to the next job to better support & care for my family (HHCA/CNA), I realise that my cheep camera(now also broken by the children) may make me a snap shooter with focus. Untill I can AFFORD to replace it or win one, I'm out of the game for a while. This just means more time to look & comment for better ideas. So, for those of us that really are trying to better themselves in this area, I would like to thank Woophy for the sight & hope You can find a way to look over Us, untill we can meet your standard, & continue to post here so that I might learn something New. Regards & Best Wishes in all of your endevores. Jan

I think the Whoophy is for lovers of photography who may have hundreds of ideas about how photography should be practised and to what it should lead. Each of us is bent on sharing her/his output with others and experience the thrill of getting comments! It is so assuring to know that your work has found a discerning eye and a similar mind. For many of us, I think, this creates wonderful opportunities for improving your photographic skills. Competition should be the last thing on our minds! There is one thing in which I agree with 'lonesome runner'. We should be more critical in our opinions! Nor buttering up but words of wise encouragement if you know!

I've only read these comments now and I suppose everyone has already said everything I think about Woophy.
We live in a democratic world wide web. We belong to clubs of our own interest, we share photographs or paintings or e-mails without any particular aim in mind, but enjoying seeing others' pics and appreciating them. This site colours our little world a bit more and makes life more interesting ( fun is a tired word as SJS says). I joined it five months ago and only yesterday did I realise it was the last day for posting a pic for the July Unofficial Contest. I wasn't upset, I chose one and posted it. It may not get any votes - what do I care? - it's there, it was well rated and I remember my enthusiasm when I took it with my brand new Leica D-Lux. The emotion I felt is the one I feel each time I see one of my holiday pics being appreciated or commented on. I was awarded a T-shirt when I least expected and I'm thankful and appreciate it as a sign of friendship and belonging.
If you deserve more or if you feel Woophy deceives you, then try something else. You don't need to give your own excuses to leave. Those who want to add to their curriculum through Woophy are "barking the wrong tree". I think there are other ways rather than Woophy to show your good work and be evaluated by real experts.
