Hey lonesome runner, I agree with some of what you say about being in public. I also agree that what you say is true when applied to editorial publication (news).
But it is wiser to make sure you have that permission in writing whenever the image is published for commercial or consumer content outside of editorial.
The problem with verbal or silent agreements is that they are worth the paper that they are written on. ; ) If they change their mind later what do you have to show that they agreed to it? Why risk a legal authority taking their word over yours?

Hi again -
now that I got the time to think about it - I don't like the idea at all.
don't want to be a part of it . i looked again at the pictures they choose:
very poor pictures (I will erase them). I guess they read this forum so that's my answer.
If one of woophy members will need pictures of Jerusalem or Israel for good cause,
I will be very happy to give my best pictures or help to find ones ...
(for me personaly money is not the issue ).

I have received the same email!!!
I have authorized the use of my pictures (2 pic), but i don't have left my adress, because if it's real they demand... but, if they send me the book, it's free?
They have not more answered to my questions...

They are very good in picking not the best shots.

I received the same kind of emails for a picture of Lisbon.
Each day, I can see how many thiefs of pictures act on Internet, so every initiative like this must be appreciated.
(Nevertheless, I asked them to ignore my work, I just prefer to let it "private")

I have received the email, yesterday for a pictura of Lisbon, too
And today (between 12 - 14 Hours) 7 email more. 2 of Portugal and 5 of Spain. I think is not serious.

But I'm confused when I read, at bottom of email:
"This email was sent to you through the email system of www.woophy.com.
The email form used on our website does not disclose your email address and we will never share your address with anybody.

Today another reqest.
The planned release is also delayed it's now nov/dec, instead of oct/nov.
Has anyone received a more personal mail instead of the standard request?

I recieved 2 requests of pictures from Egypt anybody good took.
So i agreed if they put mine credits on and send me a copy of this book without any costs this is send by mail to them.
Suprise till now no reaction to bad i would like to have seen mine pics in a book with music i love music so!!

Another email today… but for November/December… do not publish more October?
In the email it says that the shipment of the book is free… has asked other informations… I'm waiting for… meantime has not left my address… I'm mistrustful…

Honestly this sounds like a scam to me....I also got one email for a picture from Zagreb ( Mediterraneo?), not so great too but when i replied to them with couple of questions (i.e. is my permission by email enough, do they need my real name for photo credits, my street adress to send me the book) i had no response...then a couple of days later i received another mail for another picture, also with some additional info about the book itself but without any answers for my previous questions?

I agreed and got this email tonight, after reading the forum I am totally mixed up now!!! Now I have decided I won't be bothering with it!

Dear all,
I'm sorry that our email as raised so many questions. I was contacted by woophy.com owner and I've explained the situation. We are an honest company and this is the second project were we mix book and music. The first one was released a year ago and it's about Angola and the music recorded untill the independence (the tapes were kept at a warehouse for 30 years). It's "Angola As 100 grandes musicas dos anos 60 e 70" and the text is portuguese only. You can make a search in google with "as 100 grandes musicas..." and you will find thousands of results. One is a review from BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/release/db8c/
The same way we made with Angola, we are promoting this project the best way we can, so it's a garanty for the music, texts and photos inside that they will be seen by many people.
For Mediterraneo, we have professional photographers that have let us use the pictures (as in Angola) for the credits and a free of charge copy. We have choosen already part of the photos to be included at the book and we wanted to give the chance to other photographers to show their "eye" on people and land of Mediterranean region.
The purpose of the project is to show taht we are all one people, and we have choosen Mediterraneo because it is the land of the dawn of civilization.
The designer is choosing the photos for the book, as the texts will be featuring History, Music, Gastronomy, Turism, etc.
Anyone is free to give the authorization for the photos, and we will be sending a copy to the adress given, no matter where in the world that person might be. It's a very nice work, hard cover with 4 CD with music from each of the Meditarranean Arch countries. The music was researched with our partners in each country, and has a tradicional flavour but a contemporary sense.
We are sending pro-forma emails as a first reply, as we have made a big first choise. As soon as our designer starts selecting them, we will contact each selected photographer for further details request, and if needed a bigger format.

To follow on this old topic, I recently received this email (see below); anyone else? Anyway, I've sent them the full-sized photo, never really been into making profit from my photography as it's only a hobby, although it will be nice to receive the music CDs.

Folks. Vee Mac has asked me to tell you that she sent off a photograph. She has now received a book, in English, containing her picture, and is very satisfied with the quality, etc.

Yes Martin, 4 CDs each represent a region I've no time today to listen them, I've plan a visit of a museum of the arts and works ( you'll see that after I 've finished to show you chantilly)
You have a nice presentation of all countries around the Mediterranean sea ; historical, geographical, climate and so on .
