Sometimes people leave comments on my photos asking "stupid" questions - they want to know what the name of the building, river, town, etc. on the photograph is, even though I already mentioned it in the description, or sometimes it is even the name of the city above the photograph.Could it be that the descriptions and the name of the city above the image are too unobtrusive? It seems this has gotten worse since the ads have been introduced (but it also happened before). Since the ads are mostly about Spain, people even seem to think that the image in question depicts a Spanish scenery! I don't think it is necessary to make the ads less conspicious (I understand Woophy needs them) , but the information about the image could perhaps be presented more coherently.

maybe it would be helpful to have the opportunity besides punching in keywords to add a little description.

I don't mind about questions in the comments, but I agree with Wilfred that the description might be a bit unobtrusive, especially since the introduction of the advertisements.
I remember the thing Matthias mentioned above is already suggested before on this forum. I think it might indeed be good to ask people to add a short description (with a words limit) with some keywords in it, so that the search option is still useful. A descripition is more interesting and tells more than just a number of keywords.

I already use the 'keywords' feature to add a description. Maybe that's not what it's meant for but why not. The problem remains that the keywords and/ior description are unobtrusive.

About the adds, we are just testing them and so far these specific adds don't work. However we need some funds to keep existing so we try several means of advertising.

The idea is to connect the adds in the future with the location of the photo e.g. Hotels in London near a London picture.

So the adds will improve and the keyword box might also be used for descriptions. The aim is that with our search function you should be able to find specific images.

Any comment on our adds is highly appreciated since we are always looking for the right balance between a free site with not to many adds

I think the advertisement on top of the page is OK; one can clearly read them, but they do not make using Woophy to a less pleasant experience. And in the picture screens I do not think ads have a disturbing effect, but it might be a good thing to decouple from the description/keywords. Maybe one line from left to right in the bottom of the picture screens will be an option?
Besides, of course I understand Woophy needs some funds. I think you're policy is OK.

I don't see what the problem is :) I realise there is a description because I write one when I add photos, surely others realise this too? I look for it on photos I view.
I am all for keeping woophy a free site so "go for it" with the sponsored ads, they are not in the way.
Perhaps as new members get the hang of it, they will pick up on these points :)

I guess there are also members who don't post images. They are just looking so they miss the experience you and I have.

...I am a local university teacher in visual arts, and I am always supporting students to ask whatever they want to, reffered to the subject or not. I don´t think that people ask "stupid" questions, what people do is non-articulated questions, I mean, a question has to be sometimes constructed in a accesible way.
Questions are not stupid, because, when somebody questions, by default, the inquiry it is not from a stupid person because whoever wants to know something are not stupid.
Anyway, I agreed with Roderick, maybe it´s a matter of time to some members (it happened to me), to understand the dynamic of Woophy format.
My regards to everybody. Let´s keep shooting.

@Pistachon,

I deliberately put quote marks around the word "stupid". It's not that I really think these questions are stupid. My point is that the lay-out of the image window is somewhat disordered, so that some people overlook the information that is already there.

Wilfred, maybe the picture attracks so much attention, that the question is already posed, before people see the description.
Pistachon, I agree with your point of view.
