Hi everyone.
I am in desperate need of advice and information regarding the Cobra Twin 30 TD Flash unit. This unit was acquired when I purchased a collection of photo gear on ebay and was at the time not the main part of the bundle but an additional item. I have tried out the unit on my Digital Fuji 6900Z (tut tut) and it works absolutely fine and is a impressive piece of photo kit due to its flexibility as it has a variety of settings in both twin flash and single flash mode. The unit, although I think is very old still appears to be in excellent condition, however, I believe this flash is no longer in production.

I realise that this unit was probably intended for film camera use and that the power voltage was not so important on many film cameras and not originally designed for Digital Cameras which have some delicate circuitry on board the camera. I have no idea what flash power voltage this particular unit puts out because it came with absolutely no paperwork at all, so any advice or product information on specification would be very welcome. I am aware that some powerful flash units can often "fry" the circuits in many digital cameras if there is a voltage overload from the flash unit. I am lead to believe that the Fuji 6900Z in question can cope with a power output voltage up to 400V ????? However this is unconfirmed at the moment.

I would dearly love to use this flash unit for portrait work due to its versatility and because it can be used off camera and also comes with a variety of soft coloured filters and diffusers. It would be interesting to use it in conjugation with my 240V mains slave flash that I shoot contained within a large umbrella soft-box.

I expect there is a Woophy member somewhere who has this unit or at least has some knowledge of its spec so I live in hope, I have included a picture of the unit for identification.
Thanks in advance.

Barry

I am not the ultimate expert, but I have some remarks/suggestions:

1) the main problem will be EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference). If your digital camera has a metal body it acts as a "Faraday Cage" and I expect no problems/.damage.

2) Connected with some cable to the camera body you should isolate the camera from the environment (e.g. by rubber foots on your tripod) so that the camra will follow the potential level of the flash unit.

I keep my fingers crossed.
