Hello woophy members!
Once again I am here with a question, I would like to know how, with what program etc do you sign your pictures, I can see that many members do it and don't know if I will or not, but I would at least like to know how.

Thank you,
devish.

As you can see I don't sign my pictures, but with PSP 9 which I use is it very well possible.
I don't know which software you use to work on your pictures but I think in even the simplest program it is possible to add text in the photo.

Hello Devish... I have never posted a signed picture on Woophy, but I sometimes I add my manual signature on pictures ...
I scanned my own signature made in black on a white sheet. Then I stored it as a picture.
With Paint Shop Pro, I made two release of the picture, one in black, one in white :
I selected the signature, and changed its color.
In the same time, I erased the background, keeping only the selected zone (the signature).
So I can now add this signature on pictures, at the bottom. In white or in black, depending on the background. I hope this explanations will be understable. I'm going to add an exemple later.

See below an exemple of this scanned signature added as a picture under the main picture, at the bottom :

234849

My technic is different from the De Stilte's, as the signature here is not a text, but a picture of a manually written text.

Lo Devish

I use the mike's framer script on photoshop CS2, to do the frame, text below the pic, the exif on the left side and the signature. You could choose every parameters (police, color size place). It is very easy to use and efficient.

hello,

I only sign on pictures I offer as gift to friends, my technique is the same that Aline uses.

I signed on a paper, scanned it, and now I have a picture with 2 layers in Photoshop, 1 black signature, 1 white signature. Depending on the the pic I want to sign I copy the layer with white or black signature and paste it on the pic.

Be careful on signing your pictures, many people think that your ego is proportional to the size of the signature. Some people are someway paranoiacs, even here on woophy, when they post their pictures whith a big text across the picture "this photo belongs to XXX XXX". Be sure that these pics are not the best you can find on woophy!

I believe that's what we call in french " la nature humaine". It makes me smile.

Anyway, Merry Christmas to anybody here, I'm sure that every camera will be out tonight, and that w'ell have many Christmas pics on woophy the next days.

*devish, I'm so glad you posted this question. I was wondering about that, for a while.
I think it's really tough for some of us to post our best photos, while worrying about pic-robbers.

I recently was blessed with being at the right place at the best time, for capturing some really good Snow Owl photos.

I would like to post them & share with my Woophy brothers & sisters, but I'm also worried about anyone taking my pics & claiming them as there own.

My Marine son tried for over an hour to figure out how to place a signature on a photo. But the thing is, that unless I put that signature accross the face of the owl, then it can still be robbed.

I want to post my photos at best resolution & with the total landscape. But I don't kow how to do that, without worries.

Can anyone help me, please?

Whilst imitation can be the highest form of flattery in some cases, those that steal our pictures (or any individuals work) and then presents that work as their own are quite distasteful people and are in no way being flattering but are merely plagiarisers. Therefor signing ones work, is in my view, always a good thing. It is certainly something I have considered in the past and something I would do once the practise becomes acceptable, perhaps we should encourage each other to indulge in it. I have no doubt many of our photos have been stolen from the Internet and even sold on to picture agencies for profit.

I am aware signing our work wont completely stop the practise of picture theft but may in some way discourage it slightly. I would like to see more comments on this subject.

Thought provoking isn't it?

Barry.

Hello again on this topic

more that signing, if you're relly affraid about stolen pics, post in low resolution.

That's what I do, I really don't know what any pics agency can do with a 150kO compressed jpeg.

You can also insert a Digimarc with Photoshop, but again I think that a low resolution pic can't be used by a professionnal agency.

Low resolution pictures offer about the best protection i suppose while it leaves the picture useless for commercial use, however it destroys also your reputation as being a good or at least moderate photographer...

I sometimes implement text, potentionally a signature, in a picture using photoshop:

- open your picture

- open a new file

- write your text in the new file

- resize your text as you wish

- using the magi tool select your background and invert your selection. Now you have an exact selection of your text

- copy the selectionFIELD to your picture

- slightly alter the brightness of the part of the photo captured by your selection

- deselect and you'll see you text

I find this the least agressive certainly when you don't alter brightness to extreme. After all components of the picture are the same just brightness differs in the text part.
For an example: look at my last uploaded picture. It served as christmas card in 2005 and if i am not mistaken i had the original uploaded too...

Grtz
