Some photograms from the documentary: Castelsardo, Sassari and Alghero
Presented at the Museum of Contemporary Art
“ MASEDU “ in Sassari
BY Gian Paolo
The passion, the death and the resurrection
of Jesus Christ as ritual cerimonies in the
towns of Sassari, Castelsardo and Alghero.
The documentary describes the rites of the
Holy Week starting from Palm Sunday in
Castelsardo, then following a kind of religious
route each day of the week in one of the three towns.
There is no speaking in the video. Classic, modern music and coral singing
is presented; the last one is intoned by the brothers participating in the ritual
cerimonies.
The rites in Castelsardo continue on the Easter Monday with the
“Delivery of Mysteries” presented at “ la Confraternita del Sacro Cuore.”
“Mysteries” are called the symbolic representations of the moments and the
sufferings of Jesus Christ’ s passion.
During the nocturnal procession in the medieval little centre, lit only by a few lanterns
and torches, the brothers called “ apostuli ” intone the very ancient choirs “ Miserere, “
“Jesu” and “Stabat Mater.” The rites go on Tuesday with the Procession of the Mysteries
and on Wednesday with the Procession of Our Lady of Sorrows, both in Sassari.
The description of the rites continue in Alghero, on Thursday with the Washing of feet
(Lavanda In Coena domini). In the evening. The Crucifixion is represented in the
Cathedral. The cerimony shows Spanish cross-references due to the Catalan origin of
the town. The documentary ends in Castelsardo on Friday, with The Deposition Of
Christ from The Cross (S’ Iscravamentu in Sardinian language). The last procession
brings the Simulacre from the Cathedral to the church of “Santa Croce”.

Why in Q&A?
Why in capital letters? Remember that in "computers" communication, when you write in capital letters you are shouting. :-)
Greetings !
