Mr. Michel let me assure you that the two books I have shared here do not have any virus/malware attached with them.

And they have already been downloaded 9 times from my cloud-based account.

Profound regards.

I'm reading Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy by John Le Carré in my kindle. Unfortunately I have no picture.
I regret I didn't read it before I saw the film with the same name by the Swedish Director Tomas Alfredson.
Excellent film and book.

By the way Joris's brother Hoyte van Hoytema is the director of photography of this film.

Blend modes are somewhat mysterious for photographers.

They can be used to for a wide range of imaging effects and challenges, such as noise reduction, working with high dynamic range (HDR) images, compositing, graphic design, and digital painting. Although blend modes can be easy to use, they are not always easy to understand. The author translates the technical elements into every day language and demonstrates techniques using real-world examples.

From Oz to Kansas: Almost Every Black and White Conversion Technique Known to Man

Overview (pasted from Barnes & Noble):
The ability to create a stunning black and white image remains one of photography’s greatest and most aspirational skills. Being able to "see" in black and white is an enviable capability, and a well-crafted black and white photograph remains the finest of the fine arts. Master photographer Vincent Versace has spent his career teaching the art of perception and how to translate it into extraordinary black and white images.

In From Oz to Kansas: Almost Every Black and White Conversion Technique Known to Man, Versace discusses digital black and white photography--with a nod to traditional film-based techniques. As Versace states, today the goal is "to use what was right and good about silver photography, leaving behind what was limiting, and use what is right and good about digital photography, while avoiding its pitfalls. This is what this book is all about."

The reason you must learn "almost every black and white conversion technique known to man" is because, depending on the image--and your goals for it--there are many paths you can take in order to arrive at your final destination. Working through Versace’s techniques will give you the essential knowledge you need, as well as the ability to select the appropriate conversion technique for any image, allowing you to create a black and white image that best and most accurately reflects what you felt at the moment that you pressed the shutter.

Welcome to Oz 2.0: A Cinematic Approach to Digital Still Photography with Photoshop CS5

Overview (pasted from Amazon):
Creating memorable photographs is a process that starts before you edit an image in Photoshop, before you capture the image, even before you pick up the camera. You must first approach the subject with the proper sense of perception, with the ability to visualize the finished print before you commit a scene to pixels, but still be flexible and spontaneous. Master fine art photographer Vincent Versace has spent his career learning and teaching the art of perception and how to translate it into stunning images. In Welcome to Oz 2.0 -- a completely rewritten update of the book’s first edition -- he delves into what it means to approach digital photography cinematically, to use your perception, your camera, and Photoshop to capture the movement of life in a still image.

• Adapt your workflow to the image so you always know how best to use your tools
• Turn a seemingly impossible photograph scenario into a successful image
• Practice “image harvesting” to combine the best parts of many captures to create an optimum final result
• Discover the importance of bokeh -- not only how to use it in order to control how the eye travels and sees an image, but also how to realistically create it in post-processing

PS: The book is intended for advanced and serious photographers. It's pretty deep, and a bit complicated for a first time read (IMO). The fact is when I went the second time through it, then things began to settle and sink in my saturated mind. I've uploaded the book especially with you, Miguel, in mind.

Way Beyond Monochrome: Advanced Techniques for Traditional Black & White Photography

Synopsis (pasted from Barnes & Noble):
Photo Techniques Magazine stated: "All our readers need to know about this very useful book." Indeed, there is no other compendium that is as in-depth as this for the beauty and magic of fine-art black-and-white photography. With 560 pages and over 1,000 illustrations, Way Beyond Monochrome starts with conceptual lessons of composition and takes you through image capture, exposure, controlling tonality, variable-contrast paper, archival printing, mounting, framing and presentation with simple concepts to an advanced level. This new edition has been completely revised and heavily expanded, adding over 250 pages to the original edition with new chapters on print mounting, spotting, framing, digital negatives, utilizing digital technologies for alternative processes, and fabulous do-it-yourself projects. Overall, the authors have created a thoroughly researched, technologically sound yet aesthetically pleasing, inspirational bible for monochrome photography.

PS: The book is a real achievement, almost an encyclopaedic reference. A year back when I read it, I got inundated with the sheer technical content it's brimming with. In my view, the book is itself a complete photography course. Every traditional film photography aficionado must have this masterpiece textbook in his/her collection -- JFM, this masterwork is for you.

Film & Digital Techniques for Zone System Photography

Overview (pasted from Barnes & Noble):
Avid art photographers will learn how to model their work after legendary black-and-white photographer Ansel Adams in this instructional guide. Adams’ methodology, known as the Zone System, takes what the viewer will see--the final print--into consideration at the beginning of the photographic process, rather than focusing strictly on what the photographer sees. Once this concept, called “previsualization,” is presented and defined, the book then follows a step-by-step approach to incorporating these ideas into all aspects of the photographic process, including lighting, exposure, development or digital editing, and printmaking or output of digital images. Whether working in film or digital media, these steps will foster early accuracy and elicit better source material from a camera, which allows for greater control and contrast in the lab or on a printer.

PS: I learnt the factors involved in the finished black and white photographs from this concise book. But to be honest it had very little for the digital photographer besides pictures.

there may be a virus in it.

Should you have a potent antivirus - personally I use Norton Symantec Corporate v11, but other excellent are available -, it will send you a warning, or more, it will deny the access to a contaminated file.
I have open NGC300's links: no worries
