The last time I am wondering if some members take the time to look at the large version of a photo. As tumbnail, most of the pictures are looking good, but if I look at it large, it happens that they are blurry or moved and not sharp at all. Even tough they comment it as a perfect shot. That's not fair to the good photo's. And the member thinks also he/she is making good pict. What do you think of it?? Dieuwertje

Yes Dieuwertje, I agree with you that this is an interesting subject to take into account. Actually I posted a comment about this not much time ago... when talking about the "number of downloads" of a picture. I have just noticed that this item ("downloads") has been renamed to "Large views" and I must congratulate the Woophy staff for this change because the concept "dowloads" turned to be confusing...
The fact is that we have now in Woophy 2.0 the possibility to check out if this feeling that you had, and me too, that often members are not looking at the large view before voting, is it true or not. I think that we can compare the number of votes with the number of large views. If there are more votes it means that some people voted without opening the large image, and in the opposite hand, if the amount of large views is bigger or equal than the number of votes, it means probably that the votes are consistent with the quality of the picture. Of course we can only make this comparison with new pictures uploaded already in 2.0, as in the previous version the amount of large views was not available.
By now I checked out a few of my pics and I found out that, mostly, people opens the large view more often than I imagined... I'm curious about the opinion of the rest of members and if you did the same comparison...
Best regards Dieuwertje!

I totally agree with you. I am used to look at the enlarged picture before commenting. I prefer making comments on fewer pictures and taking time for a fair appreciation.

I also agree and saw it a few times today that I liked a picture until I looked at it Large. It was out of focus, but regardless that there were 3 very positve comments. I'm pretty sure they didn't saw it Large!
I always look at pictures large when I comment on it!

Hi I am glad you brought this topic up , Dieuwertje. Often a 'good' thumbnail, when enlarged, reveals a poor shot and I think, to give a fair comment, poeple should always enlarge before they give a comment. Regards

@ Dieuwertje: I noticed the same on several pictures. Not looking at the larger view not only gives wrong ratings, but I'm sure a lot of pictures lack ratings because people haven't seen the beauty you only see in the larger version. I sometimes urge people to look at a larger version in my comment when a picture needs it.
@Ruden: I made the comparison and came up at the same conclusion you did.

yes, yes, Dieuwertje, you are so right. I suggested some time ago to allow rates only on enlarged pictures, exactly for the same reasons as your.

Dieuwertje, you are so right. many times I found great pictures only when looking at the large image (so I write down that the large image is beautiful - hope it helps.) and there are some thumbnail that looks nice and sharp but when you look at the large image it looks poor
now you need more time to realy see the pictures - the thumbnails are too small

@Martin: You focused on an important point that we usually forget, not opening the large view also go against some nice pictures of which thumbnail doesn't give a good appreciation...
By the way, I've checked out my last 20 uploads (all them already in woophy 2.0) and the result is: 16 have more large views than votes, and only 4 have more votes than large views... Not so bad, I think...

I went back to an interesting pic posted today, and found out that it had been rated (very favorably: it has 5 stars) by 11 persons, with only 5 large views (and I think I am responsible for 2 of them). The pic is certainly good, but has flaws that you see only when large: it is apparently a scan, and dust specs are rather apparent, as well as noise.

Indeed a good topic. I discovered these things also. Personally I always open the large picture before I vote or give a comment. And with a vote I give almost everytime a comment.
But in my opinion this is caused by the amount of pictures that are uploaded per day. As I look to myself I never browse the uploaded pictures of the day (I did in the past). I don't have the time to browse 600 pictures or more. And when I had the time it could be inpossible to open each picture and for sure not open the picture in large format. So I have made a solution for this problem that works for me. I do not browse the whole collection of a day. The result is that I miss some really good pictures and that's not fun but the pictures I see on woophy I take my time for and give a useful comment and a fair rate. The forum, the unofficial contest and the search option by rates and views (that I really mis now in woophy 2) helps me to find the most beautiful pictures of a day. Then I looked the most beautiful ones I can find and let the others drown in the database. The new function favorite members helps also to search your favorite photographers with there new pictures. And this is the way I look to pictures and I have never problems with time anymore.
I can imagine that some people don't take the time for some pictures because they are in a hurry to look at the other pictures. But I could have this wrong........
Regards,
Oscar

With all respects to the staff. Checking the daily catch has become more difficult since 2.0

Agree with Pansa. But it is true that 2.0 works much faster than 1.0. It is a pity that many of the possibilities offered by the new platform are lost because of the partial thumbnails and the lack of a shortcut to the large view.

@TBM: There is a shortcut to the large view. You can find it in the icon "enlarge" (drawn as a magnifiying glass) just besides the icons "add to favorites", "report abuse" and "send a E-card".

Im guilty of not opening pictures into large sometimes but there are very few mins of the day i get so sometimes i know certain peoples attention to detail, so when i look at it i know that if i opened it id enjoy it more so sometimes ill save it to my favourites till i have time to look at it more. I have a good size monitor so the smaller picture is quite clear and sometimes feel not the true definiton of a picture thatr makes a photo but the idae and composition. But when i ca i do view in large.

I'm pretty sure my large pictures are seldom seen, at least much less then they are commented. I try to take and adjust my pictures very carefully and then of course its a pity that much of the details are not seen by a great deal of the viewers who give a comment. On the other hand what does it mean to read comments like: very nice, beautiful, 5 and so on. Not much to me. So actually I don't really care about this question. Its nice to know that there are members which are really interested, although they are a very small minority.

about the rating of of the small picture , im not big on rating anyway but then its peoples personal taste . I use a few other photo sites and we are very lucky woophy let us view in large as some sites only let you view in thumb nail. You dont go to an art gallery and say id like that vermeer to be in a larger format . And anyway if people had to open the picture in large format all the time you wouldnt have your high view, comments and ratings you desire. Instead alot of photos will just be missed forgotten , have you seen how many photos are uploaded to date on woophy . think you;d have to give up work and not sleep to view all of them and keep up with all the others that pop up every day.Think we should be happy with how things are and if someone likes to view in small so be it . Maybe people dont realise you can view large . all in all im happy with woophy 2 and maybe one day everyone else will be hahaha..
Oh and sometimes people dont have extremely good cameras or they take it off their phone cameras so viewing in large sometimes takes away from what the photo is showing. Say someone has a really cheap camera might not focus great and poor exposure so when you open it in large it looks blurred , but hold on does that take away the composition or subject. some people will say yes as they click another photo with their 1000 pound camera yet i say no in fact there are some classic photos with poor focus yet great composition and flare . so seeing a photo in the smaller format isnt always a bad thing . Thing about woophy is its for the beginner , the camera addicts and all those who love photos so maybe the people who are overly concerned about quality should go to the proffessional sites where full time photographers take a photo apart and analise it. Me id rather see a photo how i like it and how i wanna view it and how i wanna rate comment or favourite it.

Browsing and then looking at big versions is much harder in the new version, browsing takes so much more time. I talked about this in all the earliest bug forums. I haven't really been doing it in a consistent way since Woophy 2.0. It just takes too long. I'm looking at many fewer photos, large or small, checking forum and my faves photos first. I think it is a real problem now with the site and very disappointing.

Did you also realize that the number of views in Woophy 2 is quite different than the one in Woophy 1, because the counter increases even when you go from small pic to small pic with add'l info (exif). In other words: from thumbnail to small pic : +1 from small pic to small pic with add'l info: +1 again
Otherwise, I fully agree with Scarlet, and would really like to know when we can expect a corrction of the thumbnail issue.
