I'm not sure if this issue has been discussed before. If so - my apologies!
I wonder if we could have a bit of a campaign to use the Keyword section correctly, i.e. a list of words to index the photo amongst others with the same Keyword. I like to review, comment and vote by subject (as someone else said in another forum item, "who has time to look through 600+ pictures every day?"). But, when I retrieve on a particlar word the majority of photos have a paragraph of general description of the picture.
The photocographer can add their general description in his/her own comments on the picture but the keyword section should be kept for just that in my view.
Now having said that I do abuse the key word section a little by putting a word (bigswitch) against all my pictures that is shared with a few photographer friends of mine. That way we can retrieve all our photos in one go for a joint review.
One other point - the loss of the 'date range' in V2 is bit of a nusiance. It was good for limiting the number of photos pulled back or to keep it to, for example, the latest ones. Anyway that's another subject. V2 is generally a big improvement in my view!
Any views?

I second that. From a former forum entry:
(...) Maybe, Joris, you could grant access to the info space for the photographer so that he/she can add the story or just a short sentence of description to this image. That would separate keywords and image-story/info which are now liberally mixed in the keyword section. Better change the term keywords to tags then. It better defines the keyword system as a search tool.
A note on keywords: almost 99 percent of flickr traffic (when an image is not freshly blogged or just uploaded or just put into a forum discussion) comes from keyword/tag searches from within flickr itself or from search engines! Not tagging your images with keywords means an image will fade into oblivion once it is more than a week or two on the site and hasn't got highest rating praise.

I too would like to see keywords used correctly. I know others have said this, but to be able to use the keyword/tag section correctly, we really need a description section also.
I have a couple of other questions concerning keywords.
1. Should we use both the singular and the plural of a word? Example ball and balls. What about mouse and mice?
2. What about phrases? Such as baseball player. Should you just put baseball player or use a list such as: baseball player, ball, player, baseball.
I know an advanced search can used word fragments, but I haven't entirely figured out the most efficient way to use the search.

I agree with all of the above. I would like to see a keywords section so that you can add the keywords to enable photo's to be found in searches but also a separate description box too, so that you can say what the photo is about. That would seem to make a lot more sense and people would know what goes where.
