i have to be honest. i shy away from giving "negative" comments simply for the fact that when i have, people take offense. sometimes rightly so, but either way its just human nature to dislike someone telling you why your picture blows. i for one do not know much about "photography", but love taking pictures. i view it as an art form, and some people will hate something for one reason (technical) or another in something that i find amazing. i know from experience that there are certain people who are here for ratings only and will not take any form of critisism. if i do rate it low and give a reason, i know they will come back and possibly downrate my pic's out of spite.
i think this is a partial reason why others may not give reasons why they rated low.....either theyre afraid of a sort of "retaliation" or on the other hand they are the ones retaliating.
or maybe im way off base completely.
(side note: is "way off base" a term used outside the U S ?)

OH OH!
The old problem again!
My dear friends!

Thanks to the link Oscar provided a translation:

I am amazed that the question at the beginning of this forum is not answered. Joris why did you remove the first John Melskens topic?
His statement deserves to be seen by all:
“Hello ALL, I have deleted my account, because I have enough of the (anonymous) ratings.”
The discussion is an old one and the core is the anonymity of the ratings.
Over a year ago I was involved in a discussion like just this one and my comments were removed from the forum also. Joris told me to back off because he was working on a solution.
I have not seen any solution yet!
Indeed it seems like mentioning this topic is a taboo for WHOOPHY. I think that is really stupid. The solution is so easy: attach the ratings to the comments, so that it is clear who rates what for what reason!
Deleting forum discussions is even more stupid. For a time I did not want to participate anymore. I only came back because I like the sharing of the pictures and the comments a lot. However, if this entry is deleted also I feel I will have to leave.

The reason for my reply of October 9th seems the same astonishment as I read in eriks post. I do not agree with the words he chooses, I would not use the word stupid, but I agree with his remarks about the silence form the side of the Woophy team when it comes to this discussion.
As I said before, I do not really care about the ratings in the way some others do, but it surprises me that the same negative energy is still present at Woophy and the Woophy forums. I really appreciate the great work of those who built and moderate Woophy. Let me say that first. However, I would like a serious action from their side to tackle the problem that frustrates a lot of Woophy members for a long time already. And if no (seemingly easy) change is made to solve the problem, I would appreciate it very much if they would come with a serious and well funded statement to explain why they remain inactive. The suggestions of Woophy members deserve a serious reaction.
I hope this topic can be treated in a democratic and peaceful way in the future and that the problems will soon be solved.

withdraw "stupid" and replace it by "incomprehensible"
I agree that we should focus on the positive energy
