79th minute: a killer's charge by Spanish defender: A clear penalty and red card misssed by the referee, a bloody shame

Now only two slots remain up for the taking.

● Obviously Sweden are out.

● Ukraine needs a win, anything else and they're out.

● England needs a draw, but if they lose, they have to hope Les Bleus lose (to Sweden) by enough so that they at least end level with the French on goal difference and goals scored.

● France needs a draw, but if they lose, they would only be out if England lose but at the same time move level with them on either goal difference or goals scored.

My prediction: Shevchenko will spoil Rooney's party, and Ibrahimovic will give a stunning performance.

PS: Do correct me if I have made incorrect permutations.

England not only managed to hold the relentless assault of the Ukrainians but netted a goal too. Alas, the official failed to spot the Ukrainian equalizer.

And Sweden proved that they are a force to reckon with, but only too late.

So it's England vs. Italy and France vs, Spain

Portugal are back in action tonight as strong favourites in their ¼-final with the Czechs in Warsaw.

If the Portuguese repeat the kind of performance they gave against the Dutch, in which the only flaw was the finishing, neither Spain nor France will be relishing a semifinal meeting.

My prediction: Portugal 2-0 Czech Rep.

Y A H O O !!!

By sheer determination and flamboyance (in 2nd half only) the Portuguese are through to the semifinals. Ronaldo came to the rescue.

I jumped out of my sofa along with Figo and Eusebio!

On the other hand, Petr Cech showed tremendous goalkeeping skills in keeping Portugal at bay for quite sometime.

Goodnight.

Heheheh, as I am the only football mad man from Portugal coming here (I really guess my portuguese friends are missing some english improvement to come here), I wanna thank NGC and Santí!
Yes, the 2nd half was great. Even failing a few times great chances to score more, at least we shot 20 times against 2 (and any to the goal) of the Czech Rep.. Moutinho and F.Coentrão were amazing! And Ronaldo was there at the right time again (plus 2 more to the... "stick").
Tomorrow? Germany.3-0.Greece or... a (big) surprise?

Dearest Miguel,

Surely Germany's greatest fan, Ms. Merkel, would be in the stands of Gdansk Arena.

As known to all, Germany was the largest contributor to bailouts for Greece and was instrumental in demanding structural reforms and hugely unpopular spending cuts in return. So Greek fans are unlikely to take kindly to Ms. Merkel's presence.

Having said that, the way Germany steamrolled past the teams in the group-stage by being the only team to have won all the three matches, I agree with your prediction (earlier that is).

Greeks would be missing their main playmaker, their skipper, because of suspension. And that is the last nail in the coffin.

! Amazing cartoons!
NGC, just a question you...may know (the answer):
Is the danish Bendtner a sponsored favourite od D.Strauss-Kahn? He wasn't allowed a penalty (it was 0-0) that could have put mrs.Merkel out of the Euro (I mean, football tournment).

Well, not less interesting, and already moving with newspapers little tragedies around Spain and France (mainly), will be the great match between La Roja and Les Bleus! I was astonished when I read (and didn't know in advance) that France won 5 in 6 (draw the other one) official games against Spain! And now? History back? Will La Roja of 2012 overcome historical statistics? Hope it will be a great match with no penalties dismissed, no red cards and a frenetic game! Prediction? 1-1! After penalties... (I'll keep it for me)

As expected Germany trounced the Greeks.

The French just couldn't break free from the cocoon that had engulfed them since their defeat at the hands of the Swedes. They looked distinctly unconvincing throughout the match, it was as if they lacked the belief or the ability to equalise, let alone to win.

A well deserved win for the Spaniards, their metronomic passings did the trick.

Now the showdown at high noon : Portugal vs. Spain!

... And once again England fail in the penalty shootout , they are homeward bound and the cool Italians meet the Germans in the other semifinal.

The cheeky chip from Pirlo was so just out of norm, that is, it was great!

Goodnight.

For those who don't know PBX personaly, I may say he looks like being serious but he's always joking. Besides, in those cases, he is normally wrong . Well, in any case, in 3 official matches for Euro or World cups, between the iberian teams, Portugal draw one, won another (both in Euro Cups) and lost for the World Cup (though the only spanish goal was offside:wink. Hope it will be a good match, with no strange situations!

Today, congrats to Italy!!! It was so much better than England, surprisingly, I'd say: Italy playing forward, England defending! History is upside down. A special remark for someone I do admire as a playmaker, playing simple and goooood: Pirlo!

So, Spain-Portugal and Germany-Italy! Do you imagine which would be the most interesting final? I won't tell you

NGC, I'm waiting for your predictions. You having been much more accure than I could imagine
Best regards from the "BestTravel Destiny 2012": Porto!

Miguel

PS: Oh, so far, the best referee with 3 great matches is Pedro Proença! Congrats, Pedro!

As a neutral observer I still think Spain and Germany will be in the Final, but I have no preference at all.
Miguel: What to do during that match against Spain to beat the nerves and fears?? ? A walk along the beach ?? I wish you a lot of strength!

Jan, so far, I watched a maximum 0f 60 min. during portuguese matches (last one). Then, when the match is ended, I rewind TV digitally and see what happened! During the remaining time, I put my earphones with some loud music (not to listen to the neighbour shouting) and read a magazine or work for school (almost ended, but not yet totally). It has worked...

I will contradict the predictions of Platini and Jan and so, I'll bet a final Portugal - Italy

Italy 3 - Germany 2

Portugal 4 - Spain 3

too much goals PBX For the Portugal-Spain I think it will be much more probably a result as 1-0, 0-1, 1-1...

My bet:

Spain-1 Portugal -0

Italy-1 Germany-3

My bet:

Portugal, 2 - Spain, 1 (Spain scores first by Fabregas; Portugal then scores by Hugo Almeida and by Sergio Ramos, in an unhappy situation). Sergio Ramos also misses a penalty 5 minutes after Fabregas' goal.

Italy, 0 - Germany, 0 (Italy wins in the penaltys 5-3)

The final: Portugal, 2 - Italy, 0

HAHAAHAHA!!!! Some things that I like from Abílio's bet: an own goal from Ramos is always something to laught about!! And much better if he also misses a penalty kick!!! (I would expect exactly the same from Piqué, of course!)
And I would be also glad if that other "poligonero" called CR7 won't scores!!!

Anyway... I hope your result will be wrong

PS. Some "poligonero" examples HERE (as you can see, CR7 is in the third place )
