I am vying for Portugal. :)
But the Portuguese are in the, so called, Group of Death (Group B) that includes all four teams ranked in the top 10, Germany 2nd, the Netherlands 4th, Portugal 5th and Denmark 10th.
Furthermore, Germany have won the Euro titles thrice (1972, 1980, 1996), the Netherlands once (1988) as well as Denmark (1992).
Oddly enough, the majority of Woophians belongs to Group B.
Below is the complete schedule of fixtures:

@NGC : thank you for your support ! Anyway, I don't think we have chances this time. Being realistic, at least (and this supposing all other players would play their best) we needed a REAL forward (The colombian Falcao would be my bet and the positional #6 doesn't pleases me - Miguel Veloso; I'd ask for the absent Manuel Fernandes who plays for the turkish team Besiktas! So, my 3 main favs are Holland (the best forwards, the most beautiful play), Germany (strong players, a few of the greatest players, though too much convinced they are the best) and Spain (not the fav #1 because they will also miss the forward David Villa). Lately France seems also to reborn, but I don't think sufficiently enough for the title. Let's wait and see
Regards
M.

Hi Miguel, Never bet on Holland, their last success dates back to 1988, although a second place in the World Championship is not bad at all of course. The bad news is the defense is in trouble with Pieters missing and Mathijsen's injury. The forwards have not done too well lately especially against ultra defensive opponents and then there is the discussion van Persie/Huntelaar both top scoring forwards in England and Germany but only one can play in the present system. The same trouble midfield with van der Vaart en Sneijder. With van Bommel and the Jong they try to compensate for the weak defense but that will harm the supply for the attackers. People here are by far too optimistic but it is a nice compensation for the bad economy............. My favourites are Spain and Germany on 1 and 2, number 3 can be everyone...........

Poland 1-1 Greece
Great opening, two red cards in the opening match!
BTW, lacklustre game.

Russia 4-1 Czech Rep
From Russia With Love! The Russians dominated the Czechs throughout, with only a faint glimmer of Czech counterattack.
With this match Russia has extended their unbeaten streak to 15 games.
Surely they will top this group (Group A).

Hi NGC300, i ceased to be a football fan a few years ago when i realized that it had turned, in fact, into increasingly brutal local patriotic and nationalistic gladiator games on the pitch, in the stands, and outside, a hysteria pumped up by the media and business to make more money. Hope you won't get offended by this remark Let the best win, if it's possible ))

Denmark 1-0 Holland
No offense intended to Mr. Hemels, but the Dutch ran less and jaunted more. And their tactic for this game was to shoot million times -- blindly. Where were the Van Bastens, the Rijkaards, the Gullits, the Koemans?
A hugely disappointing outing, even the match trudged along at a snail's pace.
PS: Thank god Canadian F1 pole-position started at right about the 2nd-half of the match. Vettel's on pole.

Germany 1-0 Portugal
Disciplined Germans eked out a goal from the flamboyant Portuguese.
A lively game indeed.

Dear NGC I wonder if you saw the same games as we did. So far my feelings before the start of this tournament have proven to be correct. But having said that there was only one team that wanted to win to day and also deserved it. Two clear penalties missed by the referee and no luck at all. Germany-Portugal was a drake until the German goal. Nothing decided yet but for Holland it will be difficult.

Dearest Mr. Hemels, if the hot-favourites have come here to win on penalties then I am saddened a bit. I think they hit the ball some 30 times on the goal-side but maybe only 5 times "on" the target.
Let's see what is in store for the Group B. And if memory serves me right, the last time the Dutch lost their opening game at a Euro Championship was in 1988, but then they went on to win the trophy.
Profound regards.
Off topic: Actually it is against the norm to take photos in Madinah and Makkah. As long as you point the lens towards some architectural object, the Saudis do not mind. The moment your point of interest is culture (people or bazaar etc.), it's an open invitation to some harsh reprimand.

Ruud, so far, only Holland and Portugal haven't' scored!... Well, Holland may complain for a penalty dismissed by the referee (as Ireland against Croacia with a... dutch referee ) and Portugal had 5 great opportunities to score against 2 by Germany. Anyway... they both lost! No moral victories for me, anymore! Just lost! Ok, not finished yet! With two games to end the first round, the biggest good surprises are Russia and Italy. What about next France-England? 0-0- or... 3-3?

During the Spain-Italy match from yesterday we saw an image absolutely shameful... Remember that yesterday's morning our shameful president Rajoy announced the bank rescue, a mesure forced by the spanish banks+governments incompetence, although our shameful president said this rescue is a "victory" of his government ????? After he told his lies to the press, our shameful president though it was a good idea to take a plane to Poland and attend to the match. Look at this picture, this is the image of a country's president few hours after an European intervention. Yes, absolutely shameful.

(the shameful president is the second rat from right, the one with the red tie)

Yes, Santí, there, here and (almost) everywhere, nowadays! With your taxes they do what they feel like! Here, a bigger, 2 years newer, and more expensive car [guess which one! Not a ...Renault... ], of about 140.000€, was bought for the PM! They should know about norwegians... The globalisation of incompetence and shamelessness nocked our world! And big Banks back them now, in their past and... in their future!!! Btw, 1-1 at mid-time in France-England Still 3-3 is possible

who is paying for those 100.000 millions of Euro's ??? In Holland we paid for the problems of our own banks back in 2009 around 30,000 millions without bothering other European countries. Spain should have done the same in that year.

Don't talk for us, Jan... I didn't ask for anything! And think that the question to your answer is "us", that means the spanish people (with more taxes and less services until the payment will be done). The government says that the banks will do it, but we are not stupid!! Well.... not all of us....
I'm sorry to start an off-topic conversation, let's return to football. My humble opinion: Spain won't win the cup (no one won it two consecutive years). Germany will do it.

The old horse's (Shevchenko) double stuns the Swedes. A lively game compared to the dull stalemate between France and England.
